Project #1 — real desktop accounting, rebuilt in the open

Ledger Reborn 2026.10.12-preview.1 is an independently implemented local accounting app informed by a focused REA investigation of QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

• Windows x64: Windows-x64-Setup.exe installs for the current user. Windows-x64-portable.zip is the portable option. The Microsoft WebView2 runtime is required and is not bundled or silently installed.
• Apple Silicon Mac: macOS-arm64.dmg.
• Intel Mac: macOS-x64.dmg.
• SHA256SUMS.txt, build-manifest-*.json and frozen-smoke-*.json record the exact published bytes and executable checks.

The packages include Python and open a dedicated desktop window. Start with My Company for an empty ledger, or select Synthetic Test Company for isolated sample data. Company databases live outside application files.

Working workflows

Balanced journals, customers and vendors, invoices and bills, partial and allocated receipts/payments, moving-average inventory, CSV bank import/dedup/matching/classification/reconciliation, financial reports, projects, budgets, period locks and backups. Transactions and reports come from the local SQLite engine.

What was verified

All three native platform jobs passed, building commit fef2b5312b897bfa036171ea5247ac2d6d3d5b9f.

Each platform passed the 52-test public suite, the 12-check HTTP smoke and an 8-check frozen executable smoke. The latter checks persisted invoices and partial receipts, calculated reports, bundled assets, isolated data paths, Origin/Host checks, backup and server shutdown. Bundled third-party notice hashes were verified before packaging.

The released Apple Silicon DMG was mounted and checked locally, its notice hashes and ad hoc signature integrity verified, and its actual desktop window reopened successfully. Windows and Intel Mac have native build and executable-smoke evidence; a full manual GUI/install walkthrough on those machines has not been completed.

Preview boundaries

This is a calendar-versioned prerelease. One user, one local machine, USD. Full QuickBooks pixel/interaction equivalence is not established. Payroll, tax filing, live bank connections, payment execution, multicurrency, full company-file migration, sales tax, credit memos and inventory returns are not included. No original binaries, proprietary images, official sample databases or raw decompiler output are redistributed. No affiliation with Intuit or endorsement by REA is claimed.

Signing: no Apple Developer ID, Apple notarization or Windows publisher certificate. macOS has an ad hoc integrity signature. Downloaded previews may prompt operating-system checks; this release does not change security settings.
