Thanks for the suggestion, @wayneclo, and @mawnir for the +1. Choosing the name and location per screenshot makes sense, and right now you can only do that from the History window, not right after a capture. Here's what I'm thinking of adding:
I'd rather not start with a setting that asks where to save every screenshot. With auto-save on, that would interrupt every capture with a dialog. If many of you want that "always ask" mode, though, it's easy to add on top. Would this cover your workflow? Feedback (or a 👍) here helps us decide what to prioritize. |

re your suggestion; that would be great!
thanks.

Here's what I'm thinking of adding:
Quick Access: a Save As… item in the right-click menu, and Option-click on the Save button. Both open the standard macOS save panel with the filename pre-filled from your naming template.
Annotation editor: ⇧⌘S for Save As, following the usual Mac convention.

Thanks both for the quick feedback! Save As is now in (#359) and will ship in the next release:
Both open the standard macOS save panel with the filename pre-filled from your naming template. Cancelling keeps the card or editor open. One small change from what I described earlier: it lives in the card's "…" menu rather than a separate right-click menu, since that's where the card's other actions already are. Let us know how it works for you once the update is out! |

with capso v1.2.3, capso (icon) does not appear in menubar or dock. i have no way of accessing the app.

Thank you!
It was not on in System Settings -> Menu Bar.
It is now in my menubar.
Thanks again.

Sorry for the trouble, @wayneclo <https://github.com/wayneclo>! Nothing in 1.2.3 touched the menu bar code, so let's figure out what's going on. Capso never shows a Dock icon (it's a menu bar–only app), but the menu bar icon should be there. Could you try:
Check whether Capso is running (Activity Monitor). If it isn't, open it from /Applications.
If it is running, the icon may be hidden behind the notch or a crowded menu bar. Try quitting a few other menu bar apps, or check System Settings → Menu Bar to see whether Capso is switched off there.
Your shortcuts should still work (Capture Area is ⌥⇧1 by default), and you can open Preferences directly by running open "capso://grab/preferences" in Terminal.
We'll also make opening Capso from Finder or Spotlight always bring up Preferences in the next release, so there's always a way back in. Let us know what you find!

it would be fantastic if you could provide a shortcut for capture area, save as.

Uh oh!
There was an error while loading. Please reload this page.
This is the shortcoming of many screenshot apps. They do not permit the user to decide where each screenshot should be saved, and under what file name.
Just add the invoking of the Mac Save As window as an option in Screenshots Settings.
