MeshCue 1.1.0
Every model looks different in this one, and the ones that carry their own
colours look different by a lot.
A modelled scene of a hundred and thirty materials was coming back as a flat
sheet of near-white: canopy at 241, walls at 228, thirteen levels of separation
for an entire building, with nothing clipping and every colour converting
correctly. ACES is a film curve and it was doing what a film curve does — roll
everything bright together, and take the hue with it. The work in 1.0.2 and
1.0.3 had never touched this, because both were about models that arrive with
no materials at all.
The viewer now tone maps with Khronos' PBR Neutral, the curve meant for showing
an object rather than grading a frame. On that same scene it nearly doubles the
tonal range the model occupies and doubles what is left of its colour.
The lamps were set against a shoulder that is no longer there, so they come
down — the two overhead by well over half, the hemisphere barely at all. They
are not doing the same job: the hemisphere is the only light that reaches a
face pointing away from the lamps, and scaling all three together halves every
underside in the scene.
The grey given to a model with no materials of its own is solved again for the
new lamps, against the same rendered result that was approved for the old ones.
An unpainted part keeps the appearance it had; its shaded side is brighter than
it was.
Plain view had been painting with a second grey that agreed with the first by
luck until the first was tuned. Pressing Plain on an already unpainted model
made it brighter — the one model where that button has nothing to do. There is
one grey now.
Nothing about the tools, the disk format or the agent contract changes.
