Mosaic Desktop 0.4.0 Beta
Mosaic Desktop 0.4.0 Beta
Mosaic Desktop now opens as an industry solution: Mosaic for Jewelry and Mosaic Consumer are the same app cut down to Make, Templates and Learn, in plain words, with the solution's own template repo connecting itself on first launch and every release arriving signed. One download, every solution: pick one on the splash, and Advanced brings the full product back at any time.
Opening it the first time
- macOS: signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple. macOS may ask once whether to open something downloaded from the internet. That is all.
- Windows: the installer is signed by m0saic. SmartScreen may still say "Windows protected your PC" while the certificate is new → More info → Run anyway.
What changed:
- Your disk, inside Make. A Files dock with places, a lazy tree, thumbnails and hover previews; drag a picture or clip onto a cell, or a whole folder onto a media list.
- A video that plays on the canvas. Make previews real media, with a render range you can set.
- Light mode, for the whole app, remembered.
- Your brand, filled in once. A shop profile (
brand.m0v) seeds every template's brand props; a template repo can ship its own brand schema. - Start pages made of questions. A cover can ask the few things a template needs before the canvas.
- Template repos install from their releases. Community updates and GitHub sources install from release bundles (runtime + previews + samples); private repos take an access key; a repo signed by m0saic for its owner reads "Signed by m0saic". Remove a source and its snapshot goes with it. Saved sources load at startup.
- Learn → Mosaic CLI, with a command per template and the Output pane's command line.
- The engine: print-size stills at full quality, image encodes written to real files, and a dense wall of videos rendered without swamping an 8 GB machine.
- Business Card v3 (light or dark, the solutions QR on the back) and the alpine bar graph and line chart on one exact scale.
Pairs with the m0saic CLI 0.4.0 (npm i -g m0saic): m0saic community fetch and m0saic install <owner/repo> replace --community-repo, which is gone.

Mosaic Desktop 0.3.3 Beta
Mosaic Desktop 0.3.3 Beta
A fix release on the 0.3.1 line, from the first night of the community templates on Mosaic Web. Make keeps a title's day on an empty calendar date, the Debug view shows the tile inspector in the pane, a pipeline template saves one step at a time, the Device picker carries the platforms' own marks, the Templates rail searches its tags, and every GitHub link lands on the new front door. The bundled template set is unchanged — the eight @m0saic/* substrate packages stay at 0.3.1 and the CLI stays at 0.3.2; only the app moves. Existing installs are told by the in-app update check; it notifies but never installs.
Once.
What changed:
- An empty calendar date keeps its day. On the Drop Calendar, typing a title into an empty date wrote the title alone, the day moved to the next slot and the title vanished. A title's first write now carries the date with it. Same fix the web got on 2026-10-06.
- The tile inspector in the pane, too. In the Debug view, while the Inspect card is open on a tile, the Selected-tile inspector also shows in the right pane at full height. Closing it from either side clears both.
- Save .mosaic on a pipeline saves one step. A
.mosaicis one document, so on a pipeline template (the business card's front and back) the button writes the step on the stage and names the file after it:business-card-step1-front.mosaic. It used to refuse with "No resolved layout to export yet". - "All canvas options…" opens the Device section. The canvas quick menu's link opened the pane with Device still folded. It unfolds the section now, and the menu gained "Social presets…" straight to the picker.
- The Device & Social Presets picker shows each platform's own mark, from its brand kit, with a trademark line under the groups.
- Templates: search the tags, one Format axis. The Tags section has its own search box for installs with many repos loaded. The Platform section is gone; a declared platform counts under its shape, and the Format chips say landscape, square or portrait.
- News previews follow a superseded template to its newest version, so older announcements keep their picture and "View template" opens the version Templates lists.
- GitHub links land on the front door,
github.com/m0saic-project/m0saic, from the splash, the footer and News. A quiet line on the splash, after a render, and on News asks for a star; the × hides it for the visit, "Don't show again" is forever.

Mosaic Desktop 0.3.2 Beta
Mosaic Desktop 0.3.2 Beta
A fix release on the 0.3.1 line. New template workspaces install and build on the first try, Make tells you when a template has a newer version and opens on a frame that shows the content, and the Tools page now lists every package the app actually bundles. The bundled template set is unchanged — the eight @m0saic/* substrate packages stay at 0.3.1; only the app and the CLI move. Existing installs are told by the in-app update check; it notifies but never installs.
Once.
What changed:
- New template workspaces build.
m0saic initand Desktop's New template workspace shipped a starter whose lockfile still pinned the 0.3.0 packages, so the firstnpm run buildfailed. The starter is current again, and the scaffold now sets every@m0saic/*range to the substrate line this install bundles and drops a lockfile that pins an older set — so a workspace made by any future build asks npm for the right packages. - Superseded templates point forward. Open an older template version and the breadcrumb says so by its name, with one click to the newest version when this install has it. The old version keeps working either way; a printed card or a saved file still opens exactly what it names.
- Templates open on a visible frame. A template whose tiles fade in used to open at the first frame, every tile still invisible, with the wand pulsing over empty rectangles. Make now opens on the first frame where the content is there to see. Scrubbing back to the start works as before.
- The wand follows what you see. In the user view with Debug off, the reveal outlines hug the painted rectangles (rounded cells, inset cards), not the coarse layout cells behind them. Debug on still shows the layout cells.
- A pinned layer lets go when an edit adds layers. Pin a layer, switch a template's own Debug layout on, and the new layers it adds would have been hidden behind the pin — the stage went black with nothing to say why. The pin now releases when the document grows past it.
- Tools lists every bundled package. The language (
@m0saic/dsl,dsl-stdlib) and the substrate packages that reach the app only through others (text, dictionary) were bundled but missing from the list. The CLI'sm0saic versionsprints the same list, plus alockstep:line naming the substrate line this build carries.

Mosaic Desktop 0.3.1 Beta
Mosaic Desktop 0.3.1 Beta
Every bundled template has a new version built for the canvas, an agent can work on the live Make canvas with you, and Make now teaches itself. The Mac build is signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple from this release, so the first launch asks at most the plain "downloaded from the internet" question. Existing installs are told by the in-app update check; it notifies but never installs.
Opening it the first time
- macOS: double-click the app. macOS may ask once whether to open something downloaded from the internet. That is all; the Privacy & Security ritual of the 0.3.0 beta is gone.
- Windows: the installer is signed by m0saic. SmartScreen may still say "Windows protected your PC" while the certificate is new → More info → Run anyway. Once.
What changed:
- Every template a handle. Each bundled template has a new version built for the canvas: click the thing you want to change and change it there — text, numbers, colours, media slots, and now a choice such as light or dark, picked on the card itself. Settings the canvas cannot show sit in a small dock beside the stage, and a wand replays the reveal of what is editable. The older versions stay installed for the files that use them; they are marked deprecated, hidden from the browser unless you ask for them, and ship no preview media.
- The tile card is where you tune. A prop edit no longer drops your selection: the card, and the colour chooser it opened, stay put while the template re-resolves.
- An agent in the room. The m0saic MCP server can work on the live Make canvas: read what is open, change a prop through Make's own undoable writer (it lands as "Agent changed …" with an Undo), point at a tile, and when a template has no knob for the ask, branch it into a plain
.mosaicand nudge the geometry as a ghost you apply. Deprecated template versions are off the agent's menu. - Agent sessions. Make's agent door starts a session: pick the agent you already use — Claude Code, Codex, Antigravity, Gemini CLI, Qwen Code, OpenCode or Copilot, each marked free or paid with its official install link. Desktop opens the shell tab, wires the m0saic server, and the stage shows what your agent is doing while it writes — each file, build and gate as a step, its own words as the live line — until its template opens in Make on its own.
- Learn Make. A guided tour runs inside Make on real templates: pick one, change it on the canvas, zoom in, reshape the canvas and press MAKE. Learn now has two tabs, Learn Make for the tours and Learn m0 for the language, and Learn is on the splash for everyone.
- Catalog sidecars. A template's copy lives in a catalog sidecar beside its code, so descriptions can change after the code freezes, and a template repo can say which convention line it holds to.
- Output format. Trickplay, Screencap Grid and QR with their output format switched off its default render the format you chose.
- Community templates ship as the seed in this build and update themselves from the signed releases on GitHub.
Known gap, carried from 0.3.0: Save .mosaic on a multi-step template (the screencap grid with several videos) still reports "no resolved layout" — save .mosaicx instead.

Mosaic Desktop 0.3.0 Beta
Mosaic Desktop 0.3.0 Beta
Make grew a user view. You edit on the canvas now — click a tile to see what it controls, double-click to change it in place, drop a file straight onto it, undo with ⌘Z — and the settings pane stays out of the way until you ask for it. Underneath, agent workspaces, a hub with a Start page and a terminal, and a few fixes that only show up on real footage. The Windows installer is signed; the Mac build is not yet — code signing on macOS lands with a later release, so the first launch there still asks once. Existing installs are told by the in-app update check; it notifies but never installs.
Opening it the first time
- macOS 15 and later: double-clicking shows "Mosaic Desktop.app can't be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software" with only an OK button — that is the unsigned notice, not a verdict. Click OK, then open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to Security, and click Open Anyway next to Mosaic Desktop. Once; it launches normally after that.
- macOS 14 and earlier: right-click the app in Applications → Open → Open does the same in one step.
- Windows: the installer is signed by m0saic. SmartScreen may still say "Windows protected your PC" while the certificate is new → More info → Run anyway. Once.
What changed:
- Make, the user view. One floating control at the top right — Canvas, Output, Save, Share, settings and the MAKE button — and the pane starts closed. Click a bound tile for a card with its fields; double-click to edit in place; drag a photo or clip onto the tile it belongs to; ⌘Z / ⇧⌘Z undo your prop changes, and an error mosaic offers Undo last change and Reset to defaults. The layer control follows what you click, so tiles never vanish under you. The Debug toggle in the zoom HUD opens the engineer's view — tile details, geometry, the graph — for the same document.
- Canvas menu. Keep the template's size, or pick Portrait / Square / Landscape at 480p to 4K and the template re-lays itself out when it can. On a multi-file template (the business card's front and back) each step keeps its own canvas, and the render honours every one of them.
- Output and Save. Choose the output folder and file name from the float; the path sticks. Save the resolved layout as
.mosaicor the recipe — this template plus your props — as.mosaicxfor the CLI or another Make. - Agent workspaces. A Start page creates a workspace from the bundled starter (
m0saic initfrom the CLI does the same), workspaces load at boot and reload as their templates rebuild, and the prerequisite checks run and fix themselves where they can. - The hub. Start, Momo and File tabs plus terminal tabs, side by side with the page and resizable. The sidebar hides with ⌘B / Ctrl+B and comes back the same way.
- Tools → About this build. Every bundled package by tier with its version and link; the community rows say which copy is live — the seed that shipped or the update the app fetched.
- Exports match the preview for phone footage. iPhones record 10-bit HLG; exports came out bright, flat and washed out while the preview looked right. HDR sources are now tone-mapped to SDR at export. Every other render is byte-identical to before.
- Honest output kind. Make labels what the template declares — still or video — instead of guessing.
- Jobs. The queue's run history heals itself if the file was ever cut short, and concurrent writes are serialized.
- Community templates ship as the v2026.09.3 seed and update themselves from the signed releases on GitHub.
- Easy Blur's tutorial plays its clips in the packaged app (they were missing).
- License activation sends one notice — the key id, the outcome, the surface and the version, never the key — and the License page says so.
Known gap: Save .mosaic on a multi-step template (the screencap grid with several videos) reports "no resolved layout" — save .mosaicx instead; the fix is queued for 0.3.1.

Mosaic Desktop 0.2.2 Beta
Mosaic Desktop 0.2.2 Beta
Out-of-box fixes. A fresh install with no FFmpeg on the machine used to open straight into the app and fail every render — now the installer is the first screen. Code signing lands with a later release; until then each system asks once before the first launch. Existing installs are told by the in-app update check; it notifies but never installs.
Opening it the first time (unsigned beta)
- macOS 15 and later: double-clicking shows "Mosaic Desktop.app can't be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software" with only an OK button — that is the unsigned notice, not a verdict. Click OK, then open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to Security, and click Open Anyway next to Mosaic Desktop. Once; it launches normally after that.
- macOS 14 and earlier: right-click the app in Applications → Open → Open does the same in one step.
- Windows: SmartScreen says "Windows protected your PC" → More info → Run anyway. Once.
What changed:
- FFmpeg on first launch. No FFmpeg found → a blocking setup screen instead of a broken app: one click installs the pinned build (downloaded from its publisher, sha256-verified), with progress, and the app continues on its own when it lands. Already have FFmpeg? Point at it with Locate the binary…, or Re-check. A render that fails for the same reason now offers the same installer in place.
- One FFmpeg build. Mosaic never redistributes FFmpeg — it directs you to the publisher's build — so the LGPL/GPL choice is gone from the app. Tools → Toolchain is one pinned GPL build (libx264/libx265), the same one
m0saic setupfetches, so every machine renders alike. An FFmpeg you already have keeps working. - Links open in your browser. External links used to open a chromeless window inside the app with no way back.
- Roomier by default. The window opens larger (1440×900, fitted to your screen) at 100% zoom instead of 1280×800 at 125%; View → Actual Size returns to it, and ⌘+= now moves one step at a time.
- Cleaner disk image (macOS). The mounted DMG no longer shows its two hidden files.

Mosaic Desktop 0.2.1 Beta
First-week fixes for the 0.2 Beta. Still an unsigned beta: macOS and Windows each ask once before the first launch (right-click → Open on macOS; More info → Run anyway on Windows). Code signing lands with a later release. Existing installs are told by the in-app update check; it notifies but never installs.
What changed:
- GitHub repo as a template source. Templates → Add source takes a repo URL; Desktop installs it as a snapshot pinned at that commit, consent gate and third-party label included. Check for updates / Update now are separate clicks, and following upstream is a per-source opt-in. Only the official community repo keeps signature-verified automatic updates.
- Bake insets on Layout. Layout's Edit section gains Make's Bake insets → m0; saving a layout as
.m0bakes on the way out instead of silently dropping the insets. - Free tier. The QR-stamped deliverable lands in its own folder, and a render no longer reports success over a missing deliverable.
- Windows setup extracts correctly under Git Bash (System32
taris preferred). - Geometric preview text-alignment fix; the telemetry notice now opens the Telemetry page directly.

What's in it: the full local app — template browser, live render preview, batch jobs, file associations for the m0 formats (.m0 .m0c .m0p .m0v .mosaic .mosaicx), the community template library pulled and verified automatically, a License page for Pro keys, and a daily update check that notifies but never installs.
