Accessing Ubuntu 24 using the "Remote Login" feature #2588

Description

@raffaeler

I tested Ubuntu24 new "Remote Login" feature successfully using Windows RDP client. Basically, there are two sets of credentials.

  • with the first credential set (which can be specified in the "Remote Login" dialog, the Windows RDP client accesses Ubuntu remote login screen.
  • The second set of credentials matches the Ubuntu user, as if you were trying to access from the main (physical) PC

I tried to access Ubuntu 24 using mRemoteNG, but I cannot access it. I tried the following:

  • specifying the first credential set
  • setting the two sets using the same username/password
  • specifying the second credential set

It didn't work in any case.

Expected Behavior

I expect to be able to log in as the Windows RDP client did

Current Behavior

I cannot login at all.

Steps to Reproduce (for bugs)

  1. Install a plain Ubuntu 24 VM, accessible from Windows on the network (locally is ok)
  2. Enable the Remote Login feature in Ubuntu (it's new in Ubuntu 24)
  3. Try to access Ubuntu 24 using mRemoteNG

Please note that Remote Login is specifically designed to allow accessing remotely via RDP without logging in locally first.
Accessing the shared desktop is already possible in Ubuntu 22 and 23 but not if the local pc desktop is locked / logged off.

Your Environment

  • Version used: 1.77.3 (nighly build: 1784)
  • Operating System and version (e.g. Windows 10 1709 x64): Windows 10 (but this is not relevant)

I would appreciate any feedback/suggestion on how to successfully access Ubuntu 24 using the new Remote Login feature.
Thanks
