Prince of Persia 2 — The Shadow & the Flame (Macintosh), web engine

A self-hostable build of the browser recompilation of the Macintosh Prince of
Persia 2. This bundle is the engine only — it contains no game data. You
supply the data yourself from your own retail copy (see SELF-HOSTING.md), so
nothing copyrighted is redistributed here.

Play the hosted version (data included) at: https://mac-recomp.github.io/pop2/

What's inside (static files — drop them on any host)

  • index.html, pop2.js, pop2.wasm — the engine (~12 MB)
  • embed.html — lightweight click-to-load poster for embedding
  • embed-code.html — <iframe> snippet generator
  • SELF-HOSTING.md — full instructions
  • favicons + og-image

Why it's easy to host

  • 100% static — no backend, nothing to build to run it.
  • No COOP/COEP / cross-origin-isolation headers (no SharedArrayBuffer),
    unlike most WASM games — works on any static host (Netlify, Vercel, Pages, S3,
    itch.io, nginx…). Just serve .wasm as application/wasm (most hosts do this).

Providing the game data

Prepare pop2-data.tar.gz once from your retail copy (instructions in
SELF-HOSTING.md), host it with a direct link, then point the page at it:

index.html?data=https://your-host/pop2-data.tar.gz

…or let visitors drop the file / paste a link on the built-in drop-zone. The
browser can't unpack a raw StuffIt/RAR — that one-time prep is a desktop step.

Embedding

<iframe src="https://your-host/embed.html" width="640" height="480" loading="lazy"
        style="max-width:100%;aspect-ratio:4/3;border:0"
        allow="gamepad; fullscreen; autoplay"></iframe>

Free, no ads, no tracking, no attribution required — a volunteer preservation
project. The game itself is © its rights holders; only the engine/tools are shared.
