Force Link Audio 1.0.1

Choose a tag to compare

@macdigi macdigi released this 28 Jul 05:11

Fixes a beat-cursor bug that made receivers drop out, and hardens the audio tap.

Everyone on 1.0.0 should update. The old beat cursor was rewritten retroactively by any tempo change, so once a couple of Link peers were on the network the stream walked off the receiver's read window and dropped out — worse the longer it ran. Measured on hardware, a receiver's starve counter went from 27.8% of renders to 0.005%.

  • Beat cursor accumulates per block; a tempo change now only moves future audio. Verified through live 130 → 90 → 140 BPM changes.
  • Daemon binds 127.0.0.1 instead of INADDR_ANY. Previously anyone on the same network could publish audio as your instrument.
  • Shim init moved off MPC's real-time audio thread (it was doing fopen/malloc/pthread_create inside snd_pcm_writei).
  • Explicit release/acquire on the ring buffer — this is a weakly-ordered quad-core ARMv7.
  • A queue spill no longer discards the whole half-second buffer.
  • Ships BUILDINFO with source and binary hashes.

Install is unchanged: copy the ForceLinkAudio folder to <SD>/AddOns/, run sh install.sh, reboot. Updating over 1.0.0 just means replacing the two binaries.

@macdigi macdigi released this 27 Jul 01:58

Publishes the Akai Force's main output as an Ableton Link Audio channel while the Force stays fully standalone. Pads lit, screen alive, no Computer Mode, nothing flashed.

Any Link Audio receiver picks it up: Ableton Live, an iPad, another machine on the LAN.

Install

Copy the ForceLinkAudio folder to <SD>/AddOns/ on your MockbaMod card, then over SSH:

cd /media/662522/AddOns/ForceLinkAudio
sh install.sh

Reboot. It starts itself from then on.

install.sh restores the exec bits that zip strips, so do run it rather than copying by hand.

Notes

  • Stereo main mix. The Force presents 4 channels to ALSA but 3/4 are silent, so no per-track stems this way.
  • Latency you see is the receiver's buffering, not the addon's. Audio measured transparent through Ableton Live against the Force's own headphone output.
  • Tested on MockbaMod, Force firmware 3.x, kernel 6.6.95, armv7l. Only one machine so far — reports very welcome.
  • GPLv2-or-later. Sources included. Links Ableton Link (© Ableton AG), used under its GPL branch.
