Release list
Stormworks MCP v0.1
Stormworks MCP v0.1
The first public release of Stormworks MCP: a local AI vehicle-building toolkit for
Stormworks: Build and Rescue, with a portable Windows desktop app and quick setup for Claude
Desktop and the ChatGPT / Codex Windows app.
Describe a boat or road vehicle, inspect rendered previews, refine its structure and systems,
then save a Stormworks vehicle XML you can load at a workbench. This release includes land
vehicle presets, wiring and physical pipe routing, subsystem preflight, repair previews and
versioned in-game checklists, alongside the hull and interior tools. The server reads your own
game installation for part definitions and workbench sizes; it ships no game assets and
changes no game files.
Download and connect
- Download
stormworks-mcp-0.1.0-windows-x64.exe, keep it in a permanent folder and
double-click it. Python and dependencies are included; no installer is needed. - Open MCP > Set up Claude Desktop or MCP > Set up ChatGPT / Codex. Close the client,
check its configuration path and add the server. Unrelated settings are preserved and
existing files are backed up. Replacing an existing Stormworks entry requires opt-in. - Press Start server, restart your client and ask: List the Stormworks hull presets
or Show me the land vehicle guide and preview a Humvee 4x4 draft.
The desktop window has Start/Stop, a server status indicator and scrolling logs.
All clients connect to one shared server owned by the window. Client connectors never
launch a second server. Closing the window stops the host and disconnects clients; reconnect
or restart clients after starting the host again. Duplicate desktop/host starts are refused.
The MCP menu also offers raw MCP JSON, Codex TOML and a PowerShell add command. Setup uses
the EXE's actual location on this PC. If you move it, replace the old entry in each client.
The View menu provides diagnostics and log copy/clear.
Upgrading an older setup: close clients and older servers, replace the executable, then
replace each Stormworks entry through the MCP setup menu so it uses --connect. Remove any
duplicate Stormworks extension. Older entries launching server.py directly run independently
and must be replaced to join the shared desktop server.
Requires Windows 10/11 x64 and your own Stormworks installation for installed game parts.
Local MCP setup targets the Windows app's local host. Web/cloud chats use separate
connection paths.
Build and inspect
- Start from 10 hull archetypes, adjust dimensions and proportions, and scale to a workbench.
- Add superstructure, mirrored/repeated shapes, paint and optional wedge smoothing.
- Plan rooms and decks with cutaway previews, headroom and doorway reports.
- Build through hull, structure, core parts, complete access, propulsion placement and
custom block-built tank stages. Review automatic choices and skipped placements. - Inspect close-up views or open the interactive browser viewer.
- Edit individual parts and regions with atomic batches, revision checks and undo.
- Import supported saved or installed workshop vehicles into separate drafts and export a
new copy, preserving original settings and links. - Check compartment seals with highlighted leak paths and explicit uncertainty for unknown
geometry; invalid custom tanks cannot be exported. - Inspect installed part footprints/orientations, analyze reference vehicles, and record
local issue reports with reproduction details.
Focused guide topics and a building walkthrough explain tool selection, stages, coordinate
frames and persistent versus temporary changes. get_runtime_status and --doctor show
the server version, save locations, detected definitions and timeout settings.
Misspelled hull parameters produce useful errors rather than silently using defaults.
Land vehicles
Build from installed components with create_land_vehicle. Choose a preset or start from a
parametric chassis with your own dimensions:
| Preset | Included layout |
|---|---|
utility_buggy |
Saddle-seat buggy with four suspension wheels, lights, engine, premade tanks, battery and radiator. Parts are mounted but unconnected. |
utility_4x4 |
Four-seat utility 4x4 with sliding doors, a hood service panel, diesel engine, radiator, fuel tank and battery, with connected drivetrain, pipes and controls. |
humvee_4x4 |
Four-seat Humvee-shaped 4x4 with a sloped hood, raked windows, spare wheel and connected systems. Door bays remain open for custom fitting; fuel and driveline pipes are enclosed under the floor. |
chassis |
Bare chassis with custom dimensions for your own equipment and axle layout. |
The connected 4x4 presets include steering, throttle, clutch, brake, starter, light and reverse
controls. New prebuilt engines explicitly default to full power; the standalone cube gearbox
uses forward with Gear Switch off and reverse with it on. Wheel orientation and steering-sign
checks cover mirrored axle layouts. These corrections still need the in-game checks below.
Search installed wheels, tracks, controls, lights and powertrain parts with search_land_parts.
Find and analyze saved or installed workshop examples with find_land_vehicles and
analyze_land_vehicle; wheel and track references are discovered separately. Track discovery
is for reference analysis; the chassis builder currently creates road vehicles.
PNG previews and the interactive viewer use component meshes from your own game installation,
with reported footprint fallbacks for missing or unsupported assets. Hide bodywork to inspect
equipment, isolate structure, or preview manual doors in approximate open/closed poses.
Wiring, pipes, diagnosis and repairs
- Query actual signal/electric ports and fluid faces, then preview typed connection edits.
- Route physical pipes between component faces, including enclosed crossings through explicitly
selected eligible blocks. Unrelated fluid circuits remain separate; removing a crossing restores
the original blocks. - Configure supported engine power, gearbox ratios, premade tank contents/fill and small function
gates while preserving unrelated settings and imported XML. - Run
preflight_vehicleto check fuel, air, exhaust, cooling, driveline, electrical supply and
controls, with stable finding IDs, affected parts and explanations. - Use
plan_vehicle_repairsto test suggestions independently before applying them. Preview
selected repairs withrepair_vehicle, inspect the before/after findings, then commit against
the same plan and revision. Combined repairs must resolve selected findings without adding
new ones; each commit is atomic and can be undone. - Bind four reusable control assemblies to chosen parts: engine start/idle, clutch engagement,
brake/reverse and lighting. Assemblies support preview, revision checks and undo. - View diagnostic overlays in PNGs or the browser: faults, blocked exits, wheel/steering direction
and proposed wires/pipes. Typed nested MCP schemas reject unknown or missing operation fields.
Supported repairs cover selected missing controls and electrical links, engine power, steering
signal paths and reconnection of fuel/air/exhaust circuits. Ambiguous equipment, blocked routes,
unknown controller logic and cooling/driveline redesign are reported for manual decisions.
prepare_vehicle_validation exports a separate test copy with a seven-point checklist tied to
its XML SHA-256 and draft revision: starting, forward drive, steering, reverse, braking, sustained
cooling and suspension clearance. Record player observations with record_vehicle_validation;
get_vehicle_validation reports whether the export and draft still match. Checks begin pending
and only recorded human evidence can complete them.
Hull smoothing and geometry improvements
The original smoothing: "wedges" mode uses the installed wedge, pyramid and inverse-pyramid
families. Optional smoothing: "wedges_v2" refines continuous surface fits and compares the
finished skins, retaining the original when refinement adds seams or exceeds its volume-error
guard. Improved compound surfaces and corner closeouts test matching piece footprints and
backing while protecting floors, painted boundaries and carved openings.
Deckhouse shapes now support chamfered or rounded plan corners and rolled roof edges.
Open sheered cockpits have improved skin-rib removal, and explicit walking floors can receive
minimal, reported fixture supports. analyze_hull measures actual material sections, floors
and joints in procedural or saved hulls; suggest_hull_blocks suggests slope families,
rotations and mirror flags from an outward normal. Saved references keep body-local coordinates
separate. These geometric checks support inspection; they do not establish buoyancy or sealing
in game.
