First reproducible recipe for getting Ubuntu 26.04 LTS (Resolute Raccoon) on the Orange Pi 5 Pro (Rockchip RK3588S), verified end-to-end in May 2026.

TL;DR — just want the image?

Download Armbian-unofficial_26.05.0-trunk_Orangepi5pro_resolute_vendor_6.1.115_minimal.img.xz from the Assets below and flash it with balenaEtcher. That's a real Ubuntu 26.04 image, ready to boot. The corresponding .sha file has the SHA-256 for verification.

The 24.04 (noble) image is also attached for completeness; it's only useful if you want to run the build pipeline yourself from the stock Orange Pi vendor 22.04 system.

What's in the source

  • 01-build-noble.sh — builds the 24.04 stepping-stone on the stock OPi vendor system
  • 02-build-resolute.sh — builds the 26.04 image once you've booted the 24.04 image
  • apply-uutils-shim.sh — patches Armbian's build framework to work around the rust-coreutils / rustix chroot panic on RK3588 vendor BSP kernels (idempotent, called automatically by 02-build-resolute.sh)

The bug it works around

rust-coreutils (uutils) panics in rustix/.../auxv.rs:269 whenever launched through chroot on Rockchip vendor BSP kernels (verified on 6.1.43-rockchip-rk3588 and 6.1.115-vendor-rk35xx). Armbian's normal qemu-shielding doesn't engage on native-arch builds. The shim swaps /usr/bin/* uutils symlinks for a qemu-aarch64-static wrapper during chroot operations and restores them before image creation, so the final image ships clean uutils with no runtime overhead.

Tested environment

  • Build host #1: stock Orange Pi vendor Ubuntu 22.04 (kernel 6.1.43-rockchip-rk3588) → noble image
  • Build host #2: Armbian noble (kernel 6.1.115-vendor-rk35xx) → resolute image
  • Verified on the resolute image: VERSION_ID="26.04" and 108 clean /usr/bin/* → ../lib/cargo/bin/coreutils/* symlinks (no shim residue)
