10.36.0 - 2026-10-26
Ghostex 10.36.0 is out. Ghostex moves to the newest GPUI, Ghostty, Chromium and VS Code, uses far less CPU while accessibility tools run, gets open files, VS Code windows and Browser pages as tabs, background pages for agents in other projects, a Session details panel for every chat agent, separate accounts for people who share a Codex Business workspace, and a round of fixes for remote computers, Linux installs and the phone.
⚡ Faster and newer
- Ghostex is drawn by the newest GPUI (Zed's latest, GPUI Fast and GPUI Kit 0.8), so idle CPU drops from about 26% to about 4% while accessibility tools are running.
- Lists and menus scroll with macOS-style bounce.
- Terminals run on Ghostty's late-October code and the newest zmx, and sessions that are already running keep going through the update.
- The built-in browser runs Chromium 156, October's security update. After updating, Ghostex downloads its Chromium runtime once more the first time a browser view opens.
- The VS Code view moves to VS Code 1.143.1.
- Rendering and window errors are written to Ghostex's log, so a problem like a window that stops updating can be diagnosed.
💬 Chat
- Every chat agent gets a Session details panel with Environment, Context, Skills and Changes, Codex and OpenCode show every card their data supports, and empty cards are hidden.
- Each chat remembers whether its Session details panel is open, and switching chats no longer turns the floating card off for every chat.
- The Prompt Editor shortcut (Ctrl+G) in a chat box opens the chat box's maximized editor and restores it on the next press; the terminal view keeps opening the Prompt Editor.
- Comments and notes sent to a chat box show at once and add to what's there instead of replacing earlier pills or typed text.
- Add to Session Context adds the file to the chat box when the session is shown as a chat.
- A failed command row no longer shows "Exit code 1" after its title; the red title and cross already say it failed, and the full output stays in the expanded row.
- Ghostex dismisses Claude's self-drafted feedback card, the chat gets Copy Report, and a Claude panel's selected tab is readable.
- Claude's context breakdown waits for the conversation's first message instead of failing, and a real failure shows Claude's own message.
📂 Files and VS Code
- Files can show open files as tabs above the document (Settings, off by default), with keyboard switching on the tab row, thanks to @suatkocar.
- VS Code windows can show as tabs above the VS Code page (advanced setting, off by default), thanks to @suatkocar.
- Web links from the VS Code view open where Open links in says, and on the project's remote computer for remote projects.
- Cmd+Shift+F opens Search in Files anywhere in the Files view, including the file list and its filter field, and stays Find Prompts everywhere else.
- Tab tooltips show below their tab instead of covering the tab beside it.
- The VS Code view's terminals get their fonts without a permission bar; outside sites still ask.
ghostex openfollows your File opening setting for every file type, andghostex editon a file outside your projects opens it in the project on screen instead of adding a project.
🧭 Sessions and views
- Session groups from the CLI, plus
create-session --group-idand--cwd, thanks to @suatkocar. - A deleted Linear ticket no longer leaves every session's Linear links on "Loading…", thanks to @suatkocar.
- With Dim sleeping sessions on, a session that sleeps right after finishing a turn dims like the others, and a view whose Auto Sleep is Off is no longer slept by the awake cap, so VS Code keeps its terminals and place, thanks to @suatkocar.
- A view hidden in one project comes back to its own place in the tab bar, not at the end, thanks to @suatkocar.
- Hiding or turning off the view on screen shows the tab beside it instead of closing the side panel, thanks to @suatkocar.
- An orchestrator's tree line in the sidebar runs on past a nested orchestrator's threads instead of breaking beside them, on the computer and the phone, and a selected card no longer shifts by a pixel, thanks to @suatkocar.
- Next and Previous Session work while the VS Code view, a Files preview, Work or an extension view has the keyboard.
🌍 Browser
- The Browser can show its pages in their own row under one Browser tab (Settings > General > Tools > Browser > Show pages in their own row, off by default), with arrow keys and Delete on the row, thanks to @suatkocar.
- A page an agent opens for a project that isn't on screen goes to that project's Browser in the background: the project you're looking at stays as it is, a notice says where the page went, and the agent can use the page right away, thanks to @suatkocar.
- Clicking a PR, issue, Linear or Work chip on another project's session takes you to that project and opens the page in its Browser with that workspace's sign-ins, thanks to @suatkocar.
🌐 Remote computers
- Connecting to a remote computer logs in once, so each start or reconnect costs two SSH logins instead of seven or eight.
- Remote tunnels stop when Ghostex quits, and a tunnel left behind by a crash is stopped at the next launch.
- Interrupting OpenCode ends its running shells, and deleting a session, project or worktree drops its queued prompts.
👥 Accounts
- Codex logins from different people in one ChatGPT Business workspace are separate accounts, each with its own name and settings, and existing accounts keep theirs (needs codex-swap 0.3.2 or later).
- Windows: Claude account switching uses Claude Swap 0.28, still with shared history.
🐧 Linux
- The setup wizard's Browser Use and Computer Use steps work on AUR, deb and rpm installs, which ship
ghostexas a small script Ghostex now recognises.
📄 Pages
- A page's answers keep trying to send and save while Ghostex can't be reached, on the computer and the phone.
- A page published earlier gets today's built-in page script whenever it opens, so it picks up later fixes.
📱 On the phone
- The phone app moves to Expo SDK 58 and React Native 0.88.
- A page open on the phone keeps its address and its typed answers through a dropped link.
- On the Machines screen, a long machine name no longer covers Edit when a row is swiped open.
- The chip bar scrolls instead of overflowing, its sheets use the chat's text size, and bottom sheets fade their backdrop in place while they slide up.
🩹 Fixes and polish
- macOS: closing a focused chat menu or the maximized chat box no longer quits the app through the Touch Bar, thanks to @WangAxerold.
- A Chromium-style new tab (DevTools or the + button) no longer quits the app.
Windows beta packages are not Authenticode-signed and may show a SmartScreen warning.
