RV is a native desktop VNC viewer built with Rust and GPUI.

What's new

  • Mac Screen Sharing / Apple Remote Desktop login. RV can now authenticate with a Mac account using the new Username field plus the password in connection properties. Credentials are encrypted with the ARD Diffie-Hellman scheme, and the server's actual authentication result is checked before the session starts. Use Let server choose; Always on still requires VeNCrypt session TLS.
  • Cross-platform CI. Every change now runs formatting, Clippy, unit tests, and offscreen UI regression tests on macOS, Linux, and Windows, on both x86_64 and ARM64. A validating ARD mock server covers accepted and rejected logins.

Downloads

  • macOS: Universal DMG for Apple silicon and Intel. Developer ID signed and notarized, with the provisioning profile required for Touch ID. Both the DMG and the app carry stapled notarization tickets.
  • Linux: x86_64 and aarch64 tarballs.
  • Windows: x86_64 and aarch64 ZIP archives.

Checksums are in SHA256SUMS.txt.

Built from ed49b11. Linux and Windows archives were built by CI; the macOS DMG was built locally from the same commit after the hosted macOS runner ran out of disk space. Local formatting, Clippy, and 65 tests passed. The macOS DMG and app passed Gatekeeper assessment, and the packaged app passed a startup check.

RV is a native desktop VNC viewer built with Rust and GPUI.

  • Address book with search, labels, previews, and recent connections.
  • Refined app icon and macOS branding.
  • Touch ID for saved passwords on macOS, with safe migration from the login Keychain and the system password fallback.
  • Hide the local macOS pointer over the focused remote desktop to fix the duplicate cursor seen with Spark.
  • Fit, 1:1, and stretch scaling; full screen; keyboard forwarding; clipboard sync; and reconnect controls.
  • VNC authentication and VeNCrypt TLS support.

Downloads

  • macOS: Universal DMG for Apple silicon and Intel. Developer ID signed and notarized, with the provisioning profile required for Touch ID.
  • Linux: x86_64 and aarch64 tarballs.
  • Windows: x86_64 and aarch64 ZIP archives.

Existing macOS passwords may need login-Keychain authorization during migration. macOS can offer a password fallback when Touch ID is unavailable.

Built from f9cec23. All five platform builds passed; local formatting, Clippy, and 43 tests passed. Archive integrity and executable architectures were verified for every package. The macOS DMG and app passed Gatekeeper assessment, and the packaged app passed a startup check.
