Configurable Swatches Not visible in Filter /Layered Navigation On Flat Catalog Product Set to Yes

If you enable Flat Catalog Product in Catalog/Storefront => the configurable swatches disappear from the layered navigation /filter. (sidebar)

Preconditions

1. Magento 2.1.8
2. Flat Catalog Product set to YES
3. Have at least 2 or 3 configurable products with different colors.

Steps to reproduce

Set Flat catalog product to Yes
Create color swatches (configurable products) (multiple products)

Expected result

In side bar you should have your swatches where you click on it and all products change color.
This only works if flat catalog product is disabled.

Actual result

The configurable swatches don't show up. If you disable flat catalog product, then they show up in the layered navigation.
