• The shell now prints a help message and exits when started with the --help option. The message summarizes the command-line syntax and lists the options available at startup. Previously, the shell accepted the option but aborted with an internal error.

Changed

• The kill built-in now accepts a signal name operand to the -l or -v option case-insensitively and with or without the SIG prefix, as in kill -l sigint, and prints the name in the uppercase form without the prefix. With portable enabled, a signal name operand remains an error whether or not it has the prefix.
• The trap built-in now accepts a condition name case-insensitively and a signal name with or without the SIG prefix, as in trap '' sigint or trap 'echo bye' exit. With portable enabled, a name in such a form is rejected as an invalid condition.
