MagicBlock Ephemeral Validator 1.0.0

MagicBlock Ephemeral Validator 1.0.0 is here!

This release marks a major milestone for Ephemeral Rollups, bringing richer application workflows, broader Solana compatibility, and extensive improvements to performance, reliability, and recovery. It also introduces a new replication service and expands the tools available to validator operators.

Added

  • Application workflows: Ephemeral accounts, intent bundles, post-delegation actions, and callbacks. These capabilities enable richer workflows within an Ephemeral Rollup while maintaining a controlled path for settling delegated state back to Solana.
  • Settlement capabilities: Commit-finalize flows, automated undelegation, and commit-based fee handling.
  • Runtime support: sBPF v3, Token-2022 compatibility, cryptographic precompiles, and syscalls.
  • Replication: A new service with primary/replica coordination, AccountsDb snapshots for replicas, and deterministic blockhash checks.
  • Settlement recovery: Recovery and retry of pending settlement intents across restarts.
  • AccountsDb maintenance: Defragmentation and shrinking support.
  • Operator tooling: A validator TUI, account-fetch diagnostics, and Geyser integration and output.

Improved

  • Solana compatibility: Updated runtime dependencies to Solana 4.x, aligned rent parameters with the base chain, and improved transaction simulation.
  • Account synchronization: More parallel, demand-driven synchronization, with lock-free paths, batched subscriptions and account fetches, and tiered gRPC/WebSocket coverage.
  • Resource efficiency: Connection pooling, empty-account caching, reduced RPC traffic, and lower instrumentation overhead in critical paths.
  • Transaction processing: Tuned ledger compaction and replication scheduling to reduce contention with transaction execution.
  • Persistence and recovery: Improved ledger replay, cache behavior, compaction limits, and shutdown flushing.
  • Observability: Structured tracing and expanded lifecycle and latency metrics.
  • Release validation: Benchmark regression thresholds, expanded RedSuite coverage, and improved release automation.

Fixed

  • Hardened handling of stale and out-of-order account updates.
  • Addressed races during account cloning and subscription setup.
  • Addressed silently stalled streams and reconnection failures.
  • Hardened commit ordering and blockhash consistency.
  • Addressed issues in ledger replay and startup/shutdown sequencing.

Experimental

  • Replica mode and the challenge protocol remains experimental in 1.0.0.
