Disk View 0.1.2

Choose a tag to compare

@magynhard magynhard released this 27 Oct 13:57

What's new

  • Drive titles now show the detected connection: SATA, NVMe, USB or SD/MMC.
  • Reliable SSD/HDD information is combined with the connection, for example SSD · SATA or SSD · NVMe.
  • USB devices and memory cards show their connection and a removable-media icon instead of misleading HDD/SSD labels based on unreliable rotational flags.
  • Native NVMe and MMC devices are recognized even when cached udev metadata is unavailable.
  • New regression coverage for USB sticks, USB-to-SATA bridges, connection detection and partition grouping.
  • Added CHANGELOG.md with the history of versions 0.1.0, 0.1.1 and 0.1.2, and clarified the intended audience in the README.

Downloads

Packages are for Linux x86_64. AppImage and standalone Flatpak packages, including all ten interface languages, are attached automatically by the release workflow.

AppImage

chmod +x Disk_View-0.1.2-x86_64.AppImage
./Disk_View-0.1.2-x86_64.AppImage

Includes GTK and libadwaita. Requires glibc 2.39 or newer, such as Ubuntu 24.04 and newer.

Flatpak

Open Disk_View-0.1.2-x86_64.flatpak in your software center, or install it from a terminal:

flatpak install --user ./Disk_View-0.1.2-x86_64.flatpak
flatpak run de.magynhard.DiskView

Requires Flatpak 1.17 or newer and the GNOME 51 runtime. The bundle points to Flathub for runtime installation; Disk View itself is distributed as a standalone bundle.

Mount/unmount controls require the host UDisks2 service and a desktop polkit authentication agent. Separate .sha256 files accompany both packages.

Verification

  • 54 passing headless Crystal specs and six passing packaging checks.
  • Crystal formatting, desktop entry and AppStream metadata validated.
  • Native, AppImage and Flatpak builds completed locally; package checksums verified.

@magynhard magynhard released this 26 Oct 20:55

What's new

  • Mount and unmount individual filesystems or eligible partitions in a drive group using UDisks2 and normal desktop authorization.
  • Identify Windows filesystems and partition roles, including NTFS volumes, recovery and EFI partitions, Microsoft Reserved partitions and locked BitLocker containers.
  • New AppImage and Flatpak packages with all ten interface languages and system-controlled light/dark appearance.
  • Correct host drive information inside the Flatpak sandbox.
  • Consistent red usage bars at 90% occupancy and above, including with the older Adwaita version bundled in the AppImage.
  • Embedded Flatpak installation-preview icons and complete software-center descriptions, screenshot captions and release notes in all ten supported languages.
  • Refreshed screenshot and eject icons for unmount actions.

Downloads

All packages below are for Linux x86_64.

AppImage

Download Disk_View-0.1.1-x86_64.AppImage, make it executable, and launch it:

chmod +x Disk_View-0.1.1-x86_64.AppImage
./Disk_View-0.1.1-x86_64.AppImage

Includes GTK, libadwaita and translations. Requires glibc 2.39 or newer, such as Ubuntu 24.04 and newer.

Flatpak

Download Disk_View-0.1.1-x86_64.flatpak and open it in your software center, or install it from a terminal:

flatpak install --user ./Disk_View-0.1.1-x86_64.flatpak
flatpak run de.magynhard.DiskView

Requires Flatpak 1.17 or newer and the GNOME 51 runtime. The bundle points to Flathub for runtime installation. Disk View itself is distributed here as a standalone bundle and is not published on Flathub.

Native archive and executable

disk-view-0.1.1-linux-x86_64.tar.gz contains the executable, all ten translation catalogs, desktop launcher, icon, AppStream metadata and license:

tar -xzf disk-view-0.1.1-linux-x86_64.tar.gz
./disk-view-0.1.1-linux-x86_64/bin/disk-view

Keep bin/ and share/ together. The archive and the separate disk-view-0.1.1-linux-x86_64 executable require system-provided GTK4, libadwaita, libudev and their dependencies. The separate executable uses English unless translations are installed alongside it.

Mount/unmount controls require the host UDisks2 service and a desktop polkit authentication agent.

Verification

  • 46 passing headless Crystal specs and six passing packaging checks.
  • Crystal formatting, desktop entry and AppStream metadata validated.
  • Native archive and AppImage startup smoke-tested.
  • Flatpak version, embedded icons and metadata translations checked directly in the bundle.
  • Individual .sha256 files verify the AppImage and Flatpak. SHA256SUMS verifies the native archive and standalone executable.

Disk View 0.1.0

Choose a tag to compare

@magynhard magynhard released this 25 Oct 20:13

First release

Disk View is a small, read-only disk usage overview for Linux, written in Crystal with GTK4 and libadwaita.

Highlights

  • Drives grouped with their partitions in native Adwaita expander rows, collapsed by default.
  • Physical drive capacities, aggregated usage and per-filesystem usage bars, including available and reserved space.
  • Explicit unknown/partial usage indicators for unmounted or unreadable filesystems.
  • Automatic refresh every 15 seconds, with expansion choices preserved across refreshes.
  • Automatic light/dark appearance based on the system preference.
  • System-language selection with English, German, French, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Russian, Italian, Polish, Korean and Japanese translations.
  • Application icon, desktop launcher and About dialog with author and project links.

Downloads

Recommended: disk-view-0.1.0-linux-x86_64.tar.gz includes the executable, all ten translation catalogs, desktop launcher, icon and license.

tar -xzf disk-view-0.1.0-linux-x86_64.tar.gz
cd disk-view-0.1.0-linux-x86_64
./bin/disk-view

Keep the bin/ and share/ directories together so the application can locate its translations. For a desktop-menu/dock icon, install the included desktop entry and icon in your user or system application/icon directories and make disk-view available on your PATH. Full source installation instructions are in the README.

The separate disk-view-0.1.0-linux-x86_64 download is the executable alone. After downloading it, mark it executable with chmod +x disk-view-0.1.0-linux-x86_64. Its interface falls back to English when translation catalogs are unavailable.

SHA256SUMS contains checksums for both downloads. Download it alongside the two files and verify with sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS.

Runtime and build

  • Linux x86_64 with a graphical session.
  • System-provided GTK4, libadwaita, GLib, Boehm GC and PCRE2 runtime libraries.
  • Optimized build using Crystal 1.21.0 and --release --no-debug --mcpu x86-64.
  • Built and smoke-tested on Manjaro with GTK 4.22.4 and libadwaita 1.9.3. The executable is dynamically linked to distribution-provided libraries.

Verification

  • 27 passing headless tests, including all ten translation catalogs and plural/placeholder checks.
  • Crystal format check and desktop-entry validation passed.
  • Packaged optimized executable smoke-tested in English and French, including About, refresh and close actions.
