What's New in v1.55

Taskwire is almost complete for it's end purpose. More features to come, but the direction of why I made the app is now there.

Why I Made Taskwire / How to Use It

Taskwire gives you a full diagnostic loop across its tabs, so you can go from "something's wrong" to "fixed it" without opening a terminal.

Logs surface the problem in real time.
Dashboard checks system health at a glance.
Services let you stop, restart, enable, or disable the cause.
Processes let you find and kill anything eating resources.
Connections show you what's talking to the network and why.

The whole point is that each tab feeds into the next. Logs tell you what's wrong, Dashboard tells you whether the system is stressed, Services or Processes let you fix it, and Connections covers the network angle. You stay in one window the entire time.

Live System Log Viewer (New Tab)

  • Real-time journalctl streaming — watch system logs without opening a terminal
  • Filter by priority (Emergency → Debug), systemd unit (comma-separated), and boot session
  • Color-coded log lines by severity (red=error, orange=warning, cyan=notice, green=info)
  • Live search with highlighted matches, pause/resume, word wrap toggle, jump-to-bottom
  • Auto-scroll pauses when you scroll up to read history, resumes at bottom
  • Buffer management: 5,000 line display cap, 10,000 line pause buffer

Services Tab Bug Fix

  • Context menu Stop/Restart actions now correctly work for services in transitional states (activating, reloading, deactivating)
  • Toolbar buttons now share the same state-aware logic as the context menu

README

  • Added "Why I Made Taskwire / How to Use It" section explaining the diagnostic workflow across tabs

Downloads

  • Taskwire (51 MB) — Self-extracting archive with bundled libxcb-cursor.so.0 (works on all distros including Linux Mint)
  • Taskwire-native (38 MB) — Native Nuitka onefile ELF binary (smaller, requires libxcb-cursor0 installed)

Both binaries are compiled to C++ via Nuitka on Debian 11 (glibc 2.31) for maximum compatibility (Ubuntu 20.04+, Fedora 32+, Debian 11+, Arch, etc.).
