Nexlink Desktop 0.2.11
Nexlink Desktop 0.2.11 — Linux (AppImage, deb) and Windows (unsigned installer: Windows may show a SmartScreen warning). Windows was validated on our CI under Wine; installation on a physical Windows machine hasn't been done yet. macOS stays on 0.2.8 (signed and notarised).
Remote help
- Windows: screen sharing and remote control work — the host is built with its native Windows backend (#356, #362).
- Linux X11: capture (XShm) and input (XTest) work in an X11 session; Wayland is unchanged (#349).
- A failed remote session is no longer silent: the person at the PC gets a notification naming the cause and what to do — locked keyring, PC not registered, missing permission, module stopped, network, pairing (#304).
Notifications
- A page message ("page_message") and a page inquiry ("page_inquiry") no longer send their body in the notification: only the title shows (#436, #439).
- Seven more types hide their body by default: hidden content, identity collision, reduced reach, journal access, refused validation, price change, points operation (#446, #697).
- Previews stay opt-in in the application menu ("Show message previews"), off by default.
Compute
- Consent screens now say when no condition is required (idle, mains power, network) and that a window or condition change is a draft until applied (#297, #298, #299).

An icon in your menu bar that tells you when a Nexlink message arrives. Clicking
the notification opens the conversation on the web version — the app never
renders a message, so there is no second place where private text can leak.

First run. The app opens the Nexlink sign-in window, keeps the session in
your system keyring, and then lives in the menu bar: unread count on the icon,
Open Nexlink / Messages in the menu, mute, previews, launch-at-login.
Known, and stated rather than discovered later
- Unsigned. macOS asks for right-click → Open the first time; Windows says
"unknown publisher". The Apple Developer account exists; signing and
notarisation are wired and start working on the next release once the
credentials are in CI. - Notifications arrive while the app runs. Turn on Launch at login in the
tray menu. Electron cannot receive Web Push, so a closed app hears nothing. - Message text is hidden by default — the notification says who, not what.
Show message previews shows the first ~120 characters on one line. - macOS build is Apple silicon only in this release.
This repository holds installers only. The source lives in a private
repository; design and scope are in docs/desktop-app-brief.md there.
