OSINT

A practical, easy-to-follow collection of open-source intelligence (OSINT) resources, examples, and finished investigation reports. This repository is meant for learners, researchers, journalists, and anyone curious about how to collect and document information that’s publicly available.

Important: Some material may include sensitive information. Read the Safety & Ethics section before opening reports or reusing data.

What’s in this repository

  • Tools and small scripts (simple helpers you can read and adapt)
  • Step-by-step playbooks that show how common investigations are performed
  • Completed investigation reports — full examples showing how an investigation was done and documented
  • Reference sheets and templates to help you keep findings organized

Most items are written so you can read them and learn — you don’t need special software to get started.

How to get started

If you use Git:

  1. Clone the repository: git clone https://github.com/marielandryceo/OSINT.git
  2. Open the folders in your file browser:
    • playbooks/ — guides and how-tos
    • reports/ — finished investigations
    • references/ — quick cheat sheets and templates

If you don’t want to use Git, you can download the repository as a ZIP from GitHub and open the files locally.

Tip: Start by reading one playbook and one completed report to see both the methods and how findings are presented.

About the reports

The reports folder contains finished OSINT reports intended as examples and teaching material. Each report usually includes:

  • A written summary of the investigation and findings
  • A list of evidence and where it came from
  • Any supporting screenshots or exports (often redacted)

Please treat reports responsibly:

  • Assume reports may contain personal or sensitive information — handle them with care.
  • Do not publish or share unredacted personal data.
  • If you find unredacted personal data, contact the repository owner to report it privately.

Safety & ethics (short version)

  • Follow the law and platform rules.
  • Collect the minimum information you need.
  • Protect people’s privacy — redact personal details before sharing.
  • Do not use these materials to harass, stalk, or harm anyone.

Contributing

Contributions are welcome. Good additions are:

  • Clear playbooks or educational examples
  • Reports with an evidence index and clear redaction notes
  • Reference sheets or templates

Please avoid adding private data or secrets. If you want, add a short note in your contribution explaining how you redacted sensitive information.
