Description

When I'm trying to install mark-text with Homebrew on macOS I get a deprecated warning.

Steps to reproduce

1. Install Homebrew on a macOS system
2. Launch brew install --cask mark-text command as suggested in README
3. See Warning: mark-text has been deprecated! It will be disabled on 2026-09-01.

Expected behavior:

No warning.

Versions

• MarkText version: 0.17.1
• Operating system: macOS Ventura 13.7.7

The project is dead. Last update was three years ago, and even the domain went unpaid and abandoned. The main developer and contributors didn't have that much love as they stated in the README, I guess, for even bothering leaving a notice on the repo...

When your app will be stable, it will be nice to submit it fork to Homebrew to replace the current deprecated marktext:

@Jocs @fxha Doing a brew info --github mark-text opens a GitHub Link where it shows:

disable! date: "2026-09-01", because: :fails_gatekeeper_check

I assume fails_gatekeeper_check is related to #2983 which says MarkText's executable binaries must be signed before it’s allowed to run, wherein #2983 (comment) is a major roadblock.

Whenever your time permits, could you please review my proposed idea on hluk/CopyQ#2637 (comment)? It might help you fix MarkText signing and release future updates, thank you!

MarkText can no longer be used on Mac. You can try all the ways mentioned. It will get installed but when you try to run the app, it will give this error - “MarkText” is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Bin.

Since January 9th, 2026 has passed, the app is disabled. It's sad but true. I liked the simplicity

@Jocs now with the new version out Homebrew still says it is deprecated. Can you update Homebrew so that it will pass gatekeeper?

How is this closed? The warning is still shown. The app still doesn't run if installed via brew install --cask mark-text.

Can confirm, brew still reports this is deprecated despite the readme on this repo recommending brew as a method of installation
