Summary
Open DesktopUI v0.1.1 is a maintenance release focused on a more dependable desktop experience, safer local data handling, and more reliable interaction with Open WebUI.
Open DesktopUI v0.1.0
First public release of Open DesktopUI - a native, cross-platform desktop
chat client for self-hosted Open WebUI servers, built with Tauri, Rust, and
React, with built-in Knowledge Base sync (powered by oikb).
Highlights
- Streaming chat against your own Open WebUI server - no cloud middleman
- File attachments (drag-and-drop or picker), voice input (push-to-talk or
toggle), per-message actions (edit, regenerate, read-aloud, feedback) - Pin, mark unread, archive, and group conversations; open chats in their
own window - Knowledge Base sync: local folders and 40+ other source types via oikb,
with per-source intervals and live status - Light/dark/system theme, adjustable chat text size, collapsible sidebar
Installers aren't code-signed
Your OS will warn you on first launch - that's expected, not a sign of a
bad download. It's fine to run anyway:
- Windows: click "More info", then "Run anyway" on the SmartScreen prompt.
- macOS: right-click the app → Open (or run
xattr -cr /Applications/Open DesktopUI.appin Terminal). - Linux: no equivalent warning - nothing extra to do.
You only need to do this once per install.
Known limitations
See the README
for the current list (oikb sidecar not yet bundled, local data not
encrypted at rest, two Open WebUI integrations still best-effort).
