Vidshelf v0.1.3
Changes
- Add a visible Check for updates button to the desktop library header and the top-right corner of the password screen, including first-run setup.
- Check for updates without unlocking the library. Updating preserves the library and password.
- Show checking, up-to-date, download progress, retry and ready-to-restart states in one panel.
- Keep automatic update checks, the Help menu and the new button in sync, including when moving between the password screen and the library.
- Prevent overlapping checks and repeated install requests. Explain when updates are disabled or require an installed app.
Downloads
- Windows:
Vidshelf-Setup.exe - Debian, Ubuntu and Zorin:
Vidshelf-amd64.deb - Fedora:
Vidshelf-x86_64.rpm - Other Linux distributions:
Vidshelf-x86_64.AppImage
The installed app checks for updates automatically. You can also use Help → Check for updates to check immediately. This release adds the visible update button for future checks.
Validation
- 71 automated tests passed; Astro checks reported no errors or warnings, and the production build succeeded.
- Electron checks covered a real GitHub update check before password creation, while locked and after unlocking. The library API remained locked during update checks.
- Controlled updater events covered connection errors, retry, download progress, a ready update and the native restart request from the password screen.
- Checked the desktop layout at the minimum supported window width.
- The downloaded v0.1.3 AppImage passed real GitHub checks from setup, the locked password screen and the library using its bundled Electron runtime.
- Windows and Linux release builds succeeded. Downloaded installer sizes and SHA-512 hashes match the update metadata, and SHA-256 hashes match GitHub's asset digests.
Vidshelf v0.1.2
Changes
- Fix a race during first-run password creation: overlapping requests can no longer replace the first password or invalidate its session.
- Fix password-screen app reset for the desktop app's local address while retaining the same-origin check.
- Add the password-screen Reset app flow, with explicit confirmation before deleting the library, cached media and password.
- Center the password visibility icon.
- Update vulnerable dependencies and pin the patched Node 24 development runtime.
Downloads
- Windows:
Vidshelf-Setup.exe - Debian, Ubuntu and Zorin:
Vidshelf-amd64.deb - Fedora:
Vidshelf-x86_64.rpm - Other Linux distributions:
Vidshelf-x86_64.AppImage
Installed apps check for updates automatically and offer to restart when the download is ready. Normal updates preserve your library and password. Reset app permanently deletes the library and password; it is optional and is not part of updating.
Validation
- 66 automated tests passed, including concurrent password setup and local-origin regression coverage.
- Astro checks passed with no errors or warnings, and the production build succeeded.
- Browser checks covered setup confirmation, password visibility, logout, incorrect-password rejection, login after restarting the server, and confirmed app reset. Tested ordinary text, accented characters, whitespace, symbols and the maximum supported password length using isolated test data.
- The published AppImage passed the same browser checks using its bundled Electron runtime.
- Windows and Linux release builds completed successfully. Verified installer sizes and SHA-512 update hashes against the downloaded packages, plus GitHub's SHA-256 asset digests.
