Gumee 1.19.0

@marvj69 marvj69 released this 01 Oct 03:32

A more capable, safer agent

  • Safer commands. The agent's commands now run in a sandbox. They can change files only inside your project, can't change your git history or Gumee's settings, and can't use the network. When a command needs more, like installing packages, making a git commit, or pushing, Gumee asks you first and shows the agent's reason. These requests always wait for you, even with auto-accept on. You can turn the sandbox off in Settings → General → Sandbox agent commands.
  • Background tasks. The agent can start a dev server or file watcher, keep working while it runs, check its output, and answer interactive prompts. Stopping a task also stops everything it started.
  • Web search with any model. Web search now works with every provider, not only Gumee's own.
  • Better code reviews. /review uses a read-only reviewer that lists problems by priority (P0 to P3) with an overall verdict, and never edits your files.
  • Goals. /goal followed by what you want keeps the agent working across turns until the goal is done or it needs you.
  • Image generation. If one of your providers offers an image model (OpenAI, Google, OpenRouter, or xAI), the agent can create images and save them to your project.
  • Hooks. Run your own commands before or after the agent's actions. Hooks written for Claude Code or Codex work too.
  • Plan mode stays read-only. Commands run in Plan mode can no longer change files.
  • For the command line: new gumee review, gumee sandbox, and gumee mcp serve commands, and gumee run options for the sandbox (--sandbox), structured output (--output-schema), and saving the final answer (-o). Unattended runs that need full access, such as in CI, should pass --sandbox danger-full-access.

Gumee 1.18.37

@marvj69 marvj69 released this 26 Sep 20:07

Gumee 1.18.37 makes the working indicator calmer and clearer.

  • Fixed stray Markdown characters, including triple backticks, appearing beside the thinking status with Grok and other models.
  • The lake-themed word now stays steady while a model response streams. It can change when a new model response begins, with at least 12 seconds between changes.
  • Thinking headings now follow the latest completed heading in the current response, without showing code examples, unfinished headings, or stale headings from an earlier response.

Mac: Gumee 1.18.35 and later receive this through Check for updates. Choose Install and restart when the download is ready. Older Mac versions need the website installer once to enable updates.

Windows: download and run gumee-desktop-win-x64.exe to update. Existing Windows versions do not have automatic updates enabled. This Windows installer is unsigned and may show the Windows publisher warning.

Gumee 1.18.36

Gumee can now create its own helper agents. When a job calls for a specialist it will use more than once, like a grammar checker or a test writer, Gumee sets one up with its own instructions and hands work to it. These helpers are saved with your project, so they're still there next time and you can open and edit them in .gumee/agents/. Helpers can only read and search unless Gumee gives them full access, and they can't create more helpers themselves.

This is an in-app update for Mac: choose Check for updates, then Install and restart. It needs Gumee 1.18.35 or later. If you're on an older version, download the installer from the website once.

Gumee 1.18.35

@marvj69 marvj69 released this 26 Sep 16:04

Gumee 1.18.35

This is the first Mac release with an enabled in-app update feed. The app is Developer ID signed and Apple notarized; this release includes both the installer DMG and the update ZIP with matching latest-mac.yml metadata. The packaged app was checked to confirm its updater is enabled and points at this public release repository.

Mac users on 1.18.34 or earlier: download this DMG and replace Gumee in Applications once. Those earlier installers cannot discover this release inside the app. After installing 1.18.35, Gumee checks for future releases while it runs and offers Install and restart when one is ready.

The Windows installer is refreshed to 1.18.35. Windows in-app updates are not enabled by this release.

Gumee 1.18.33 desktop installers

@marvj69 marvj69 released this 26 Sep 04:45

Gumee 1.18.33 makes the first run easier to understand and adds stronger memory consent controls.

  • New chats default to GPT-6 Luna with High reasoning when a connected provider offers it. The fallback avoids models that cannot use tools.
  • Starter ideas stay visible until the first message. New installs get a three-step welcome and plain-English progress.
  • Common provider failures now show a short explanation with a Connect provider or Choose model action.
  • The desktop changed-files summary can reveal its output in Finder or File Explorer.
  • Explicit memory saves, corrections, and re-enabling require a real per-item user response. Corrections must identify the active memory they replace.

The new text has been translated into all 61 supported locales; native-speaker review is still needed. The Mac installer is for Apple Silicon and has been signed and notarized. The Windows installer may trigger SmartScreen because Windows signing is separate. Compare either download with SHA256SUMS.txt if you want to verify it.

gumee 0.3.0 — macOS Apple Silicon

  • Saved-workbook recalculation catches the audit's wrong formulas and misleading cached totals.
  • Native document tables, supported chart/image structures, saved-file renders, persistent checks,
    approved canonical replacements and version restore.
  • Domain-constrained research with fetched source evidence and practical fallback search.
  • Awaiting-input and partial-completion states, deterministic finish, selected fresh context,
    cumulative reservations across retries, media, summaries and bounded subtasks.
  • Scoped Google OAuth/API adapters, selected project knowledge and reviewed file changes.
  • Bundled isolated Python, offline interactive previews, provider image/transcription tools and
    local audio/video processing.
  • Deployable opt-in remote worker/shared-project service, migration backups and verified signed
    updater mechanism. Live hosting, Google registration, Apple signing/notarization and update
    hosting require external setup; this Mac build is unsigned and not notarized.

The Mac package passed 317 unit/integration tests and 18 desktop journeys. Provider video
analysis remains unverified live. Windows and Linux downloads remain at version 0.2.1.

Google live account acceptance, hosted remote/multi-device acceptance and a signed update feed remain setup gates. Local video tools work; provider video analysis has not passed live acceptance. No computer control or authenticated browser automation is included.

Install using the DMG or ZIP below. Verify the download against SHA256SUMS.txt. Close Gumee and back up its data directory before upgrading; see installation instructions.

gumee 0.2.1

  • Attach JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, and TIFF images and read their text with local English OCR.
  • Automatically recognize PDF pages without text, including mixed text/scanned documents, with page citations and OCR confidence.
  • Force OCR for incomplete text layers and request page ranges for larger scans (20 scanned pages per call).
  • Image and PDF previews use the same reader. English language data and OCR runtime ship with the app; recognition requires no separate service or download.
  • OCR text can contain errors, particularly handwriting, names and numbers. This reads text in images, not general photographic or diagram understanding. HEIC requires conversion to JPEG or PNG.
  • macOS and Windows installers remain unsigned; macOS is not notarized.
