2.1.0 – Sortable columns, Load more, PDF paper sizes
New
- Sort a table library by clicking a column heading (title, date, updated, size, downloads).
- "Load more" pagination as an alternative to page numbers.
- Post to PDF paper sizes (A4, US Letter, US Legal, A5, A3) and right-to-left PDFs.
- Downloads appear in Google Analytics (GA4
file_downloadevents). - Optional site date format for libraries.
Improved
- The file type filter lists only the types your site has, with counts.
- The Search box block uses your library page automatically.
- Typing a search updates the page address, so Back and shared links keep it.
Fixed
- Documents created in the block editor are saved with their file type and size; existing documents are repaired on update. Document Engine Pro users should update both plugins.
2.0.5 – Videos and documentation
- Videos of Document Engine and Document Engine Pro in the readme.
- Built-in help, settings texts and readme match the plugin exactly (A4 pages; four Elementor widgets; file-search formats; ZIP and secure-viewer limits; webhook signature).
- Link to the online documentation: https://matrixaddons.com/plugins/document-engine/docs/
2.0.4 – Blocks listed on WordPress.org
- Fixed: blocks are listed again on WordPress.org, now with their names, descriptions and icons.
2.0.3 – Block names, descriptions and icons
- Every block now has a block.json with its name, description and icon, so the blocks show properly on WordPress.org and in the block directory.
- The classic PDF Viewer block from version 1 uses the current block API; existing content is unchanged.
2.0.2 – Upgrade links to Pro pricing
- "Upgrade to Pro" on the Plugins screen and in the plugin header opens the Pro pricing page on matrixaddons.com.
- Readme: every Pro feature links to its own section on the Document Engine Pro page.
2.0.1 – Document library, private PDF viewer and Post to PDF
Document Engine 2.0 turns WordPress into a document library, with a private built-in PDF viewer and Post to PDF.
Highlights
- Document Library block: table, grid and folder layouts, instant search, and multi-select filters with counts.
- Self-hosted PDF viewer (PDF.js): search inside PDFs, page thumbnails, outline and links, with no requests to Google.
- Document pages: every document gets its own page, a download counter, a preview popup, QR codes, and Document List, Search and Download blocks.
- Migrate: move from Document Library (Barn2), Download Monitor or WordPress Download Manager.
- Help and upgrades in the admin: built-in documentation (Documents → Docs) and a Free vs Pro page.
- Security: Post to PDF is limited to public content of enabled post types; files of non-public documents are always streamed, never linked directly.
Compatibility: existing shortcodes, settings and the PDF Viewer block keep working. Requires WordPress 6.6+ and PHP 7.4+.
The full changelog is in readme.txt.
2.0.1: bundled libraries in a single vendor folder, readme links to the Pro features, comparison and pricing, and watermarks correctly listed as a Pro feature.
