A visual refresh. There are no functional changes, so nothing about how Peekie works is different from 1.0.0.

What's new

  • New app icon: a glass tile with two eyes peeking out, replacing the note-with-eyes icon.
  • New menu bar icon: the same mascot, simplified. It is drawn as a template image, so macOS tints it for light and dark menu bars. It replaces the generic note symbol (visible when Show menu bar icon is on).
  • Refreshed banner and social preview to match.

Install

  1. Download Peekie-1.0.1.dmg below and open it.
  2. Drag Peekie onto Applications. If you have 1.0.0, replace it.

Requires macOS 14 or later, on Apple Silicon or Intel. Your settings and saved notes carry over.

This build is not notarized, so macOS asks you to confirm the first launch. Right-click Peekie in Applications and choose Open, or open System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. Or run:

xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Peekie.app

If you use quick capture, macOS may ask you to grant Accessibility again after the update, because the permission is tied to the app's signature.

The first public release of Peekie, a translucent scratchpad for macOS.

Press a shortcut from any app and a frosted-glass note floats over your work. Write, calculate, paste a snippet or an image, and close it when you are done. Notes are temporary by default.

Highlights

  • Global shortcuts: ⌥Space new note, ⌥⇧Space quick capture of your selection, ⌃⌥N show or hide all notes. All rebindable.
  • Glass look: adjustable blur and opacity, light, dark or system appearance, and support for Reduce Transparency, Increase Contrast and Reduce Motion.
  • Writing: bold, italic, underline, colours, bullets, checklists, code blocks with syntax colours, inline maths (12*3 =), images, links and find.
  • Keep or discard: temporary by default with reopen-last-closed (⇧⌘T), optional saving between launches, and export to .txt, .md, .rtf and .rtfd, plus share and print.
  • Out of the way: no Dock icon, an optional menu bar icon, keep on top, and fade or hide when you click away.
  • Private: no network access, no analytics, no accounts.
