Updates and saved data
Installing a newer native package upgrades the existing package without requiring an uninstall first. Updates are downloaded manually.
Trainer progress and appearance settings remain intact when replacing or removing the application. Existing schema-1 trainer profiles require no migration or reset for v1.0. Complete data removal is documented separately in the guide.
Requirements and coverage
- Linux x86-64; Go is not required for release executables
- UTF-8 terminal. Font and truecolor support affect artwork presentation
- Minimum TUI size: 40 × 12
- 1,025 catalog species, 2,669 exact artwork assets and 50 achievement goals
- All 2,947 pinned inputs verified
Artwork coverage is incomplete for some species and forms. Missing artwork is never substituted; private views preserve discovery restrictions.
Follow Terminal depends on terminal background replies and uses native colors when replies are unavailable.
Verification
The release candidate passed the full test suite, go vet, dataset verification and native package checks in Ubuntu 24.04, Debian 13, Fedora 44 and Arch Linux containers.
Native checks covered installation, CLI operation, removal, reinstallation and preservation of trainer data and appearance settings. These checks do not certify every derivative distribution or terminal configuration.
Licensing
Original source is MIT licensed. Third-party code, metadata and artwork retain their respective terms; see the bundled licensing documents and notices.

PokéCRT v0.4 - Interactive Adventure Menu
PokéCRT v0.4 - Interactive Adventure Menu
PokéCRT adds pokecrt tui, an offline interactive interface alongside the existing Trainer CLI.
- Create, select and switch local trainer profiles using keyboard or mouse
- Browse your private Pokédex, collected appearances, evolution families and discovery records
- Record encounters and view recent history, trainer statistics and 50 achievement goals
- Scroll Trainer Card and Generation Progress independently in wide layouts
- Preview Dark, Light, Follow Terminal and Terminal Native appearances live, and save a default
- Explore the Home Town Map with outlined header actions and a single-line trainer card
Artwork and metadata are embedded in the executable. No network connection or source checkout is needed at runtime. Browsing does not record encounters, grant rewards or reveal uncollected artwork.
Compatibility
Linux amd64 is the initial supported platform. Interactive mode requires terminal input and output.
- Wide Home layout: 90×28 or larger
- Wide Pokédex and activity layouts: 100×24 or larger
Existing v0.3 trainer profiles remain compatible with schema 1; no migration or reset is required. Updating the executable does not erase trainer data.
Known limitations
Compact mode has known layout and navigation issues. Further refinement is deferred to v2; wide terminal layouts are recommended.
Follow Terminal depends on terminal support for background-color replies. Terminal Native preserves terminal defaults and configured transparency; it does not create transparency. Sprite presentation depends on terminal fonts and color support.
Dataset and verification
Dataset coverage is unchanged: 1,025 catalog species, 1,327 collectible forms and 2,669 exact artwork assets. Missing artwork is never substituted.
Dataset ID: 8e5073aeeff3f7761e26ccdf9f068189516ae7eded9c0998a9d970b7d37e6b60
Pinned-source verification, tests, vet, TUI race tests and offline terminal checks pass. Local packaging, checksum verification and extracted-binary checks are complete.
Downloads and licensing
The Linux amd64 archive and SHA256SUMS are attached to this release. Original PokéCRT code is MIT licensed. Third-party metadata and artwork retain their respective terms and ownership. PokéCRT is an unofficial fan project; no affiliation, endorsement or rights-holder permission is claimed.
PokéCRT v0.3 - Trainer CLI
PokéCRT v0.3 adds persistent trainer gameplay to the offline public engine. Linux amd64 is the supported binary platform; UTF-8 is required and truecolor is recommended. The interactive TUI remains a later milestone.
- Create named profiles, select an active trainer and browse another profile’s statistics without changing the active selection
- Record unrestricted encounters with uniform selection at each species, form and visual-gender step. Shiny chance is 1/4096 when the exact appearance supports it
- Collect exact species/form/gender/palette variants, gain XP and advance levels
- Earn 50 numerical, themed and completion achievements, with retained unlock dates and progress browsing. Achievements grant no additional XP or advantage
- Choose full, compact, no-title, achievements or sprite encounter output
- Browse a private Pokédex that hides undiscovered identities, forms, genders, evolution names and uncollected artwork
- Use public printing or encounter artwork in shell/Fastfetch integrations
History, discoveries, XP and unlocks commit together. Each encounter grants 10 XP, plus 40 for a new species, 20 for a new exact variant and 100 for shiny. Levels advance every 1,000 XP. Output failure after commit does not undo or repeat an encounter; broken pipes exit quietly. Encounter modes record identical state. Read-only browsing never grants rewards.
Trainer state uses CGO-free SQLite schema 1. Existing development schema-1 profiles remain compatible without a migration or reset. State resides beneath an absolute POKECRT_DATA_DIR, otherwise absolute XDG_DATA_HOME/pokecrt, otherwise ~/.local/share/pokecrt. Directories use mode 0700 and databases mode 0600. Unsupported or corrupt databases are not replaced. Updating the executable preserves profiles; uninstalling it does not erase data.
The executable embeds metadata and artwork and needs no network at runtime. Public print/list/help/version commands never open trainer storage and remain usable with missing or corrupt trainer state. First-run gameplay requires explicit profile creation and selection. No trainer database is distributed in the archive.
Coverage is unchanged: 1,025 catalog species across nine generations, 1,448 metadata forms, 1,017 encounter-eligible species, 1,327 collectible forms and 2,669 exact assets. Standard regular printing covers 1,013 species. There are 1,334 shiny slots. Missing exact artwork is never substituted.
Known limitations: 12 standard species appearances and 122 catalog form appearances lack accepted regular artwork. Separately, 53 metadata varieties lack resolved catalog/source identities. Minior meteor has no distinct accepted shiny artwork; Oinkologne male/female candidates remain excluded as generated artwork. Natural-size sprites may wrap in narrow terminals. Encounters use local write transactions and may wait for another writer; an unresolved commit is not retried.
Achievement evidence checks reuse stored form flags and distinct shiny discoveries rather than rescanning encounter history for those predicates. No new index, schema or gameplay rule is introduced. Benchmark methods, results and verification limits are recorded in the benchmark documentation.

PokéCRT v0.2 - Complete public engine
PokéCRT v0.2 expands the offline Pokémon printer into a complete public print and catalog engine.
What’s new
- Composable generation, type, color, evolution-stage, baby, legendary and mythical filters
- Exact form, shiny and distinct visual-gender selectors
- Named printing or uniform random selection among matching species with available artwork
- Public catalog browsing with
list - Detailed metadata, connected evolution families and form/artwork inventories with
list --details - Automatically derived sprite lookup indexing for faster random printing and catalog listing
Compact and sprite-only output retain natural-size truecolor half blocks, transparency, NO_COLOR support and quiet broken-pipe handling. The executable works offline without a source checkout, download cache or trainer setup.
Coverage
- 1,025 species across generations 1–9
- 1,448 metadata forms
- 2,669 accepted artwork assets, covering 1,017 species and 1,327 collectible forms
- Standard regular artwork for 1,013 species
- 1,334 shiny artwork slots
- Distinct male/female artwork for eight species
Known limitations
Twelve standard species appearances and 122 catalog form appearances lack accepted regular artwork. Separately, 53 pinned metadata varieties lack resolved catalog/source identities.
Regular catalog queries retain metadata when artwork is unavailable. Printing never substitutes another form, gender or palette. Minior meteor has no accepted distinct shiny sprite, and Oinkologne’s generated artwork candidates remain excluded.
Trainer profiles, encounters, progression, achievements, private Pokédex and TUI features are planned for later milestones.
Performance and platform
Recorded Intel i7 laptop warm benchmarks show approximately 3.9× faster random printing and 3.5× faster full catalog listing after indexing. These measurements exclude process startup; results vary by machine.
The supported binary targets Linux amd64. A UTF-8 terminal is required; truecolor is recommended. Sprites retain their natural size and may wrap in narrow terminals.
Licensing
PokéCRT is an unofficial, attributed fan project. Original code is MIT licensed; Pokémon artwork retains its respective owners’ rights. Licensing information, provider credits and third-party notices accompany the release. No affiliation, endorsement or rights-holder permission is claimed.
