Adds a live, game-style telemetry minimap to playback and exports, with a
full-event route view and resilient fallbacks for recordings or systems that
cannot render the map.
Highlights
- Live playback minimap — a compact rotating street map follows the car,
draws recent travel in white and the full remaining active route in cyan,
and labels the current and nearby streets. The map adapts to grid and
fullscreen layouts without covering the footage. - Export minimap — burn the same map into exported MP4/MOV files. Export
routes use the complete event even when only a few seconds or several
disjoint intervals are selected, and never draw false connectors across
telemetry gaps or cuts. - Optional export coordinates — a new export-only option adds five-decimal
GPS coordinates beneath the street name. It is disabled by default. - Smaller export footprint — the export minimap is now 15% of output
height (clamped to 96-324 px), keeping it subordinate to the incident
footage while browser playback retains its responsive sizing.
Reliability and safety
- Front-camera SEI remains the authoritative map telemetry even when the
front camera tile is omitted from an export. - Normal one-minute recording seams stay continuous; true telemetry gaps,
explicit export cuts and route discontinuities reset map state cleanly. - Missing GPS, unavailable map assets, tile failures and renderer failures
fall back to the legacy location overlay instead of leaving a broken or
retrying map. - Long and GPS-jittered routes are spatially bounded without turning the cyan
line into disconnected dashes. Browser and export render the same active
route topology and stop at event boundaries. - TileJSON and vector-tile downloads are size-bounded before their response
bodies are materialized. - Clean production images include the MapLibre browser assets and all Python
renderer dependencies for both amd64 and arm64.
Fixes
- Playback speed now remains selected when playback advances to the next
segment or seeks across segment boundaries. - Timeline scrubs, jumps and seek controls reset minimap smoothing so the map
snaps to the selected moment rather than gliding from stale telemetry. - Map failure remains stable until the user explicitly toggles the map off and
on to retry; telemetry updates no longer cause a fallback/retry loop.
Attribution
Exports containing map tiles carry OpenFreeMap/OpenStreetMap attribution in
their MP4 metadata. The project documentation includes the OpenStreetMap
copyright URL.
Compatibility
No migration or configuration change is required. The minimap and existing
legacy location overlay are independently selectable. GPS coordinates are
opt-in and export-only; existing export API clients continue to work because
the new field defaults to false.
