Findling 0.2.0

What's new

• Update check. Once a day Findling asks GitHub for the latest version number; nothing about you or your files is sent. A newer version appears at the top of the menu bar menu and in Settings › General, where Download and Install verifies the disk image, opens it and quits Findling so you can drag the new version to Applications. Check for Updates… checks right away, and Settings › General turns the daily check off.
• Releases are now published as Findling.dmg with its checksum in Findling.dmg.sha256, so the download link stays the same for every version.

Install

Download Findling.dmg, open it and drag Findling to Applications. Findling is not notarized, so the first launch needs System Settings › Privacy & Security › Open Anyway. The README has the steps.

Coming from 0.1.0: download this version once by hand. From now on Findling tells you when there is a new one.

Findling 0.1.0

First public release of Findling, a fast and private launcher for the files, folders, projects and apps on your Mac.

Install

1. Download Findling-0.1.0.dmg below, open it and drag Findling to Applications.
2. Eject the disk image and open Findling from Applications. Findling is not notarized by Apple, so macOS blocks the first launch: click Done, then open System Settings › Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway.
3. Press ⇧⌘Space.

Requires macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon or Intel.

What's in it

• Launcher for files, folders, projects and apps with ⇧⌘Space, a local index kept current by file system events, and ranking that explains each match.
• Preview with Quick Look thumbnails, file details and rendered Markdown.
• Type filters, folder filters, pins, hidden results and learned choices.
• Settings for locations, exclusions, appearance, the shortcut and open at login.
