Termcourse v0.3.3
Highlights
- Consistent image expansion: fixes the same image sometimes appearing at thumbnail size when expanded in the topic view, particularly in Ghostty on macOS. Repeated expand/collapse and resize transitions now select the intended image dimensions.
- Improved Kitty graphics handling: thumbnails and expanded views reuse explicit image placements, avoiding ambiguous selection of older dimensions. Placement acknowledgements are matched to the correct image and placement.
Terminals with images and no extra renderer installation
These terminals provide the Kitty graphics features used by Termcourse's built-in image renderer, so no separate Chafa or viu installation is needed for that path.
| Terminal | Platforms | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Ghostty | macOS, Linux | Native Kitty graphics support; the inconsistent image expansion reported in Ghostty prompted this fix. |
| Kitty | macOS, Linux | Native support for the image protocol Termcourse uses. |
| iTerm2 | macOS | Use 3.7.4 or newer; recent releases fixed relevant image-placeholder bugs. |
| Rio | Windows, macOS, Linux | Use 0.3.11 or newer, which includes full Unicode-placeholder support. |
Recommendations are based on documented protocol support. Termcourse has not yet been visually verified in iTerm2 or Rio, and this fix was validated with protocol and rendered-cell regression tests rather than a live Ghostty display test.
Terminal.app uses the Chafa/viu symbol fallback. Released Microsoft Windows Terminal uses the Chafa-based image path, including Sixel for expanded images when detected; Kitty graphics support remains under development.
