Calypso is a standard for parking and public transport ticketing, managed by the Calypso Networks Association. There are many vendors who supply compatible cards and equipment. It is used by multiple agencies, mostly in western Europe:

The specification consists of two parts (which matter to Metrodroid):

  • a protocol built on top of ISO 14443B and ISO 7816, which defines the interface between the card memory.
  • a way to leverage ISO 7816 files/records in order to build a parking and public transit ticketing system.

The EN1545 standard is a closely related data format, used by both Calypso and non-Calypso cards.

There are multiple Calypso cards supported by Metrodroid:

  • Carta Mobile (Pisa, Italy)
  • Intercode (multiple French cards)
  • Mobib (Brussels, Belgium)
  • OPUS (Québec, Canada)
  • Rav Kav (Israel)
  • Venezia Unica (Venice, Italy)
  • Viva (Lisbon, Portugal)
