New Features

Video Playback Settings

  • New settings in the Playback tab to customize how video plays:
    • Video Output - switch renderer if you get a black screen or visual glitches
    • Deinterlacing - fixes jagged lines on live TV channels (especially 1080i broadcasts like SVT)
    • Start in Fullscreen - open the player in fullscreen automatically
    • Start Volume - choose the volume level when playback starts
    • Cache Duration - increase buffering if your connection is unstable
  • Audio and subtitle language settings moved here from General for easier access
  • Hardware acceleration toggle now actually takes effect

Reorganized Settings

  • Settings are now split into 6 tabs for easier navigation
  • EPG settings have their own tab
  • Playback tab contains all video and audio settings in one place

Channel Logo Fallback

  • Channel logos that fail to load now show the channel's initial letter on a colored background instead of a broken image

Next Program on Channel Cards

  • Channel cards now show what's coming up next, so you can see both the current and the next program at a glance

Bug Fixes

Clicking a Channel Now Plays It

  • Previously only the blue Play button at the bottom of a card started playback - clicking the channel logo or name did nothing, which made the app look frozen
  • Now you can click anywhere on a channel card to start it, the way you'd expect
  • Thanks to everyone who reported this (Issue: #55)

Log Files Are Where We Say They Are

  • The log file location in the README and the bug report form was wrong on Windows, macOS and Linux, so anyone who went looking for their log found an empty folder
  • The correct paths are now listed - handy if you ever need to report a problem (Issue: #55)

Theme Switcher Now Works

  • Switching between Light, Dark, and System theme in Settings now actually changes the app's appearance
  • "System" follows your OS preference and updates automatically if you change it
  • Your theme choice is applied instantly when you click it

Series and Movies Get Their Artwork Back

  • Series covers were missing entirely for many providers - the artwork was being discarded silently, with nothing shown as an error
  • Movie and series artwork now fills the card properly, while live TV logos stay fully visible instead of being cropped

Series and Episodes Load from More Providers

  • Some providers send episode and season numbers in a slightly different format, which previously caused the whole series list to fail to load
  • Better IPTV now accepts both formats, so series should appear for providers where they used to be missing

Large Playlists Refresh Correctly

  • Refreshing a very large playlist (roughly 33,000 channels or more) failed with a database error and left the playlist un-updated
  • Playlist refresh now works regardless of how many channels you have

Channel Logos on Older Providers

  • Logos served over an insecure (plain HTTP) connection were blocked and never appeared
  • These now load normally

Renaming a Profile Updates Everywhere

  • Renaming the profile you are currently using left the old name showing in Settings and in the refresh dialogs until you switched profiles or restarted
  • The new name now appears immediately everywhere

Category Bar Follows the Light Theme

  • The row of category buttons stayed dark even in Light mode, showing up as a dark stripe across an otherwise light window
  • It now matches whichever theme you have chosen
  • The category names are also easier to read from a distance, and the buttons have a clearer edge so they stand out from the bar

Improvements

Smoother Scrolling on Slower Hardware

  • Scrolling through large channel lists (50,000+ channels) should feel significantly smoother, especially on older computers with integrated graphics
  • Reduced unnecessary work when scrolling - the app now skips re-drawing cards that haven't changed

Clearer Install and Setup Instructions

  • The README had drifted out of date: setup steps named buttons that no longer exist, download filenames were wrong, and EPG setup pointed at the wrong settings tab
  • The -arch AppImage is now explained properly - despite the name it is the right download for any Linux distro with up-to-date system libraries, Fedora included (Issue: #54)
  • Added a table showing where your database and log file live on each platform

Note: Make sure MPV is installed on your system before running Better IPTV.

Installation

  • Linux (Arch/Manjaro): Download *-arch.AppImage, make executable, and run — or install better-iptv-bin from the AUR
  • Linux (Ubuntu/Debian): Download regular .AppImage, make executable, and run
  • Windows: Download .msi and install
  • macOS: Download .dmg and drag to Applications
