Highlights

Omniphony 0.5.1 is a patch release: fixes and performance work on top of 0.5.0, no new features and no behaviour changes.

  • macOS: decoding works again. 0.5.0's hardened-runtime signing prevented the decoder bridge from loading, which silently broke all decoding on macOS. The signed bundle now loads the bridge correctly (#261).
  • Studio no longer freezes under state-broadcast storms. A feedback loop amplified state broadcasts between the renderer and Studio until the UI froze; the loop is broken at the source (#282).
  • PipeWire output stays on the device you selected instead of silently falling back to the system default sink (#281).
  • Binaural fixes: the pinna model rendered the whole left hemisphere as rear (#275), and a SOFA file that would build a silent HRIR set is now rejected with a clear error instead of producing silence (#257).
  • The PipeWire sink is now discoverable by PulseAudio clients and accepts AC-3, DTS and PCM in addition to the existing formats (#264).
  • OSC: one consistent numeric-conversion rule across the whole surface (#271) and an enforced, named address contract (#270).
  • Performance: the realtime output callback no longer takes a blocking lock (#267), virtual-bed frames are planned once instead of every frame (#266), the embedded host pools its output buffers (#269), and the pacer FIFO/ring paths are strict single-producer/single-consumer (#272).
  • Parity fixes between the mpv-embedded and CLI render hosts, which now share the channel-object stages (#265, #268).
  • Docs: AUR install instructions (#259) and a written release process (docs/release-process.md).

Known limitations

  • The speaker test produces no sound in binaural (headphone) output mode: it exercises the speaker path, which is not rendered there.

The decoder bridge is distributed separately.

macOS install note

The macOS build (Omniphony.Studio_aarch64.app.tar.gz / .dmg) is ad-hoc signed and not notarized yet, so Gatekeeper will refuse to open the downloaded app ("can't be opened" / "damaged"). After extracting, clear the download quarantine once:

xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine "/path/to/Omniphony Studio.app"

Alternatively: try to open it once, then System Settings → Privacy & Security → "Open Anyway" (if offered). See #201.
