SILAB 1.4.4
1.4.4 — 2026-10-03
Improved
- A PPPoE PC tells you why it is not connected: every dial attempt that fails now prints the reason
in the PC's console, as a router logs it: no PPPoE server answered, the server does not offer that
service name, login refused (wrong user or password, or RADIUS said no), the server's own message
(for example "RADIUS server is not responding"), connection lost. When the login works the console
shows the address and the gateway. Opening the console replays the last few events. - The PC keeps dialling until it connects, like a home router, and says "trying again" each time.
- Connected / not connected at a glance: a PPPoE PC's IP settings show its live state in green
(connected, with address and gateway) or red (dialling, with the last reason, or disconnected). - Connect and Disconnect: a button in the PC's IP settings, and
pppoe connect/pppoe disconnect
in its console. Disconnect hangs up and stays down until Connect; the settings are not changed. - A PPPoE PC's gateway now shows the server's address instead of "ppp0".
SILAB 1.4.3
1.4.3 — 2026-10-03
Fixed
- Virtual PCs dial PPPoE on Windows again: on Windows, SILAB runs inside WSL, whose kernel keeps
PPPoE as a module that nothing loaded. The PC's PPPoE client stopped before its first discovery
packet, so the BRAS never saw it and its log stayed empty. SILAB now loads PPPoE itself, at install,
at every update and before every dial. - A PC that cannot dial says why: if the host cannot run PPPoE at all, the PC's
pppoecommand and
its status now show the reason instead of dialling for ever.
Improved
- Sidebar order: Topology is first in the Lab group, followed by Labs, Bulk actions and Lab catalog.
SILAB 1.4.2
1.4.2 — 2026-10-02
Improved
- The web interface ships compiled-down too: the browser code (topology canvas, Insights, tables and
the shared page code) is now minified in the release, like the rest of SILAB.
Fixed
- SILAB's own install record now carries its licence: installs first made with a 1.3.x release
still listed the old licence in the package information Python keeps for SILAB. The update rewrites it.
SILAB 1.4.1
1.4.1 — 2026-10-02
Fixed
- Updating from 1.3.x on Windows now reports its result to SILAB Info: with 1.4.0 the update itself
succeeded, but SILAB Info said "The updater gave no answer" and did not refresh its icons. - Earlier versions' files are removed after an update in every case: the copies kept in
/var/backups/silabfor 1.3.x, and the unpacked installer an offline Windows install left inside the
SILAB instance.
SILAB 1.4.0
1.4.0 — 2026-10-01
New
- SILAB now ships compiled. Releases carry SILAB as native modules for Python 3.12, on both amd64 and
arm64, in one download. SILAB is now proprietary software by SecuryTik (see LICENSE).
Improved
- Python 3.12 on every install. SILAB runs on Python 3.12 whatever the Ubuntu release: the system's own
where it has one (Ubuntu 24.04), otherwise a self-contained Python 3.12 kept in/opt/silab/runtime
(Ubuntu 22.04, 26.04). After an Ubuntu upgrade SILAB moves itself to it at the next start. - Updating from 1.3.x moves the install to Python 3.12 by itself and removes the earlier version's
files, including the copies kept in/var/backups/silab, once the new version is up. If the new version
does not come up, the previous one is put back as before.
