An @level on a role now reaches the child as the dispatch's own effort field on every runtime: effort on the Claude Code Agent call, reasoning_effort on Codex's spawn_agent and Copilot's task, and effort on Pi's agent tool. The ten generated agents, effort-<level> and poteto-agent-<level>, are gone, and so is the agents list in the Claude Code plugin manifest. They existed only because the Agent call had no effort parameter, and Claude Code 2.1.292 added one. Without the list Claude Code registers the default agents/ directory, so pstack's agent types are exactly the four under agents/: comment-sicko, poteto-agent, and the two thermo-nuclear subagents. The generator now fails if the manifest gains an agents list again. Claude Code 2.1.292 or later is required for @level.
On Pi, the agent tool takes an optional effort that the extension passes to the child as --thinking. A value outside the levels in models.json errors and names the valid ones, and no child starts. An agent file's effort frontmatter is no longer read, since no file under agents/ set it. Omitting effort still runs the child at the parent's thinking level. @yehheng3-hub proposed the change in #293.
Verified. On Claude Code 2.1.296, a claude -p --plugin-dir session on this branch at xhigh listed only the four agents/ types, and per-turn effort in the subagent transcripts read low for general-purpose and pstack:poteto-agent spawned with effort: "low", and xhigh for a spawn without one. With swarm workers: sonnet @low in a project override sheet, /pstack:swarm in a medium session dispatched both workers as general-purpose with effort: "low", and their turns ran at low. On Pi 1.3.0, PSTACK_PI_LIVE=1 bun test tests/pi/live.test.mjs passed 11 of 11, including a pstack:poteto-agent child spawned with effort: "high" whose session records thinking high. The upstream Claude Code adapter at the pinned 7b353f7 maps a role's level to the same effort field.
