OpenHuman Mail 0.1.0 (early development)
Pre-releaseEarly development build — expect rough edges. Please send feedback.
OpenHuman Mail is an open-source, keyboard-first Gmail client for macOS in the style of Superhuman. It is Swift-native, keeps your mail on your Mac, runs its AI on your Mac by default, and includes a command-line interface for AI agents.
This is a very early alpha. Expect bugs. I have only tested it myself on macOS 27 on Apple silicon.
Requirements
- An Apple silicon Mac
- macOS 26.0 or later
macOS 26 and macOS 27
Apple's on-device model needs macOS 27. On macOS 26, features that depend on it degrade gracefully and the app offers alternatives:
- Use Claude Code or Codex for AI features. They stay off until you allow them in Settings › AI, and they send the text of the email they work on to that company.
- Mail's rules still sort your inbox without any model.
- A small model you can download to run on your Mac is coming in a later version.
Install and first launch
Open the DMG and drag OpenHuman Mail to Applications. The app is Developer ID signed and notarized by Apple. On first launch, follow onboarding to create and import your own Google Desktop app OAuth client. No shared Google client is bundled.
See setup requirements.
Known limits
- Not tested on macOS 26.
- No iCloud sync in this build.
- A Google Desktop OAuth client of your own is required; no shared Google client is bundled.
Report a bug
Open an issue at https://github.com/michaelmagan/OpenHuman/issues with your macOS version, what you did, what you expected and what happened. Please leave out real email content and account details.
