Game Glance 3.4.0
Touch and mouse on Spotlight Home, and touch on the game page. Update from Quick Access → Game Glance → Updates.
-
Pick and open games by touch. On a handheld's touchscreen, tap a game in the row to select it and tap it again to
open its page, with the same transition as A. The Library card and the "back to start" preview take taps too. -
Swipe the row. The row follows your finger, one game per card width, and a flick glides on, slowing down smoothly.
A flick that runs into either end bounces off it, and flicking on from the Library card takes you back to the first game.
The art and colour catch up once you let go, as when you hold the d-pad. Past either end the row gives a little and
springs back. -
The tabs. Swipe up anywhere on Home for What's new, Friends and Recommended, tap a tab to switch, swipe a row
sideways, and swipe down to go back to your games. -
The game page's cards (Spotlight look): tap the info card for Steam's Game Info tab, or the HowLongToBeat card for
the game's page on howlongtobeat.com. With the controller, press Down from the Play row to select the cards and A to
open them (#24). -
The controller is unchanged, and it carries on from wherever your finger left off.
-
A mouse works too (docked, or a mouse on a handheld): click a game to select it and again to open it, drag as
with a finger, and scroll the wheel to move through the games, one card a notch (with the tabs up, the row under the
cursor). Whatever you can click lights up with a faint ring under the cursor, on Home and on the game page: the
games, the buttons, the tabs and the game page's cards. The wheel stops at the ends. A small arrow above the games
(shown only while you use the mouse) opens What's new and the other tabs, and brings you back up. -
HowLongToBeat "no match" shows at once. A game without a match no longer searches again on every visit after a
day: the result is kept and checked again in the background, and if HowLongToBeat has added the game since, its times
show the next time you open the game's page. -
A smoother way into a game's page. The open transition's glass moves already blurred and lands exactly on the
page's cards, with no last-moment shift of the card edges or their rings; the page's rings are now as fine as
Home's. The moving text is drawn at the page's own size, so it no longer stretches or pops as the page takes over,
and it settles exactly where the page puts it on any screen, docked to a TV and on ultrawide screens too. Games from
Unifideck open as seamlessly as Steam games: the Play label, the cloud button's ring and the Uninstall button land as
the page draws them. A game without a HowLongToBeat match opens with its card already filled. Coming back with B,
Home's buttons and cards stay blurred as they fade in. -
Play time for non-Steam games (#52). Games you added to Steam yourself, such as emulators and launchers, show
the play time Steam keeps for them, on Home, the game page and the screensaver, instead of 0 h. -
Dates you can't misread (#57). Last played and Added dates older than a week name the month ("Sep 18"), in your
Steam language's own order, with the year when it isn't this one. -
A lighter pre-load (#48). The automatic pre-load covers only the Unifideck games you have installed, not your
whole GOG, Epic and Battle.net libraries; a run where everything is already saved takes seconds instead of minutes;
and it waits while a game is running.
Touch and mouse navigation closes #26; more mouse polish for the desktop comes later.
3.3.1
Game Glance 3.3.1
A fix for the game page's cards on handhelds. Update from Quick Access → Game Glance → Updates.
- The cards no longer overlap. On the Steam Deck, the ROG Ally and other handhelds, the HowLongToBeat card was
wider than its space and covered the end of the game's description. When a game opened from Home, the card also
jumped left as the open transition handed over to the page. Both are fixed (#53). - Narrower cards. The HowLongToBeat card is now just wide enough for its times, without the empty space after
100%, and the description card is a little narrower to match. The game's art shows between them.
Thanks to NjDADE for the report and the video.
3.3.0
Game Glance 3.3.0
Home's games row moves like Steam's own. Update from Quick Access → Game Glance → Updates.
- A row like Steam's Home. The last played game is the wide card. Left and Right move the selection toward the
middle of the screen; from there the row scrolls and keeps it centred, the games before it faded on the left. The
old row, where the selected game widens at the left edge, is still there: Quick Access → Game Glance → Games row
style → Spotlight. - Games you have not installed are grey. In the row, a game not installed on this device is grey until you select
it, as in Steam's library. Non-Steam shortcuts are never greyed. A game installed only on another PC (for Remote
Play) counts as not installed here. - Demos. Demos in your recent games or the chosen collection now show in the row, marked DEMO (in Steam's own
word, next to NEW on the wide card, under it on the others), and in the screensaver.
3.2.0
A Game Glance screensaver. Update from Quick Access → Game Glance → Updates.
- Your games in Steam's screensaver. Game Glance now draws Steam's Game Slideshow (Settings → Customization →
Screensaver) with the games of your Games row, your recent games or the chosen collection, instead of Steam's recent
list. Each game's art fills the screen, your custom SteamGridDB art first, with Steam's 20 seconds per game, crossfade
and slow drift. - Logo, stats and status bar. The game's logo at the bottom left, as on Home. A small card at the bottom right with
your play time, the HowLongToBeat time you are working toward and your achievements. Home's status bar at the top
right. Each is a switch in Quick Access → Game Glance → Screensaver, all on by default; turn all three off for only
the art. Preview shows it at once. - Any screen. The logo, the card and the status bar fit and stay readable on 16:9, 16:10, ultrawide, 4:3 and square
screens, and on the handheld. - Nothing to look up. The times and achievement counts are what Game Glance already saved on the device.
- Needs a Steam client with the screensaver. On an older one, Quick Access says so and Steam's screensaver stays as
it is. Steam's Bouncing Logo, or the switch off, gives you Steam's own screensaver. - Updates and Home. After Game Glance updates while Home is open, Home is opened again so it shows the new version:
before, its status bar could lose the battery and connection until you left Home.
3.1.2
Spotlight Home and the game page now fit screens wider than 16:9. Update from Quick Access → Game Glance → Updates.
- Spotlight Home fits wide screens. On a screen wider than 16:9 (21:9, 32:9, desktop monitors), the games row was
half hidden behind Steam's button legend and the What's new / Friends / Recommended tabs were off-screen. Home now
scales by the screen's height on those screens and uses the extra width as side room, so the whole Home fits. - The game page fits too. The page scales the same way, so the open transition from Home still lands on it. On a
wide screen the two cards stay compact (the description at the left, HowLongToBeat at the right edge) and the
game's art shows between them. The Clean look fits as well. - 16:9 and 16:10 screens are unchanged, including the Steam Deck, the ROG Ally and 1080p/4K TVs.
Thanks to everyone who tested the wide-screen pre-release on their ultrawide screens.
3.1.1
Game Glance 3.1.1
game-glance-3.1.1-open-transition.mp4
A new way to open a game from Home, and a steadier Home. Coming from 3.0.x, update from Quick Access → Game Glance →
Updates.
- A new open transition (#11). Opening a game from Spotlight Home no longer scales up the wide card. The hero art
stays where it is, and Home's own title or logo, Play row, buttons and info chips move to their places on the game
page. The description and the HowLongToBeat card fade in as it opens, so the page is complete the moment it takes
over. Both page looks (Spotlight and Clean) have their own version. - Back to Home at once. B on a game page brings Home back with its art and colour already there: no dark flash, and
no glimpse of the first game's art. - Faster cycling. Pressing L1/R1 or the d-pad quickly, or holding them, keeps the screen steady: the selection
moves along the cards, and the art, colour and wide card follow once you stop. A held d-pad or stick steps at the same
pace as a held bumper. - Large custom art. SteamGridDB heroes, logos and card art far bigger than the screen are drawn from smaller copies,
so switching games no longer freezes on them. A very large custom logo no longer makes Home stutter as it opens or as
you reach that game (#31, thanks to @germydan for the report and video). - Ready ahead. Home loads the art, descriptions and HowLongToBeat numbers of the games in its row in the background,
so cards widen and games open with everything in place. - Play from. A game installed on more than one device shows Steam's "Play from" arrow on Home's Play pill, as on the
game page. - Shading. Home shades the art the way the game page does, with Steam's shadow at the top.
- Unifideck games. The cloud, the Play word and the game's size show as on Unifideck's own page, on Home and during
the open. - SteamGridDB. After you change a game's art with SteamGridDB, Home's accent colour follows the new art instead of
keeping the old one (#32). - Smaller fixes. A blank logo file shows the game's name instead. The game page's Spotlight cards have one height.
Numbers follow your language's format. The cloud button also shows for games Steam's store has no details for.
After an update, new games are pre-loaded after 15 seconds instead of a minute.
Thanks to everyone who tried the 3.1 pre-releases.
3.0.7
Game Glance 3.0.7
A fix for Spotlight Home with SteamGridDB. Coming from 3.0.x, update from Quick Access → Game Glance → Updates.
- SteamGridDB. With SteamGridDB's "Square capsules" or "Uniform featured" setting on, Home could break with a
React error ("Class constructor RouteGuard cannot be invoked without 'new'" in 3.0.4 to 3.0.6, React error #130
before), depending on which plugin loaded first. Both plugins now patch Home side by side. Thanks to
@KnifeFed for tracking it down and sending the fix (#18).
3.0.6
Game Glance 3.0.6
Status bar items. Coming from 3.0.x, update from Quick Access → Game Glance → Updates.
- Battery. The battery is green while the device is charging.
- Downloads. The status bar shows a download and its percent while Steam downloads.
- Your avatar. Turn on "Profile picture in the status bar" in Quick Access (Spotlight Home) to show your avatar, round,
with a ring in your online colour, in place of the dot. It's off by default. - Quick Access. The status bar stays on screen while Quick Access is open.
- Game page. Steam's top bar no longer flickers behind the status bar as a game page opens.
Screenshots
3.0.5
Game Glance 3.0.5
Coming from 3.0.x, update from Quick Access → Game Glance → Updates.
- Sounds when you open and start a game. Opening a game from Home plays Steam's own sound for going into a game's
page, and Play plays Steam's game-start sound, as on the game page. - Space Required for Steam games. A Steam game that isn't installed shows the space it needs, labelled "Space
Required" in Steam's language, on Home (next to Played) and on the game page.
3.0.4
Game Glance 3.0.4
Stability for Spotlight Home. Coming from 3.0.x, update from Quick Access → Game Glance → Updates.
- Home recovers from an error. If Spotlight Home hits an error that used to break the Home screen (React error #130,
reported on SteamOS), Steam's own Home now shows instead, and the screen keeps working. Turn Spotlight Home off in
Quick Access as before if you want Steam's Home all the time. - A log for reports. Game Glance writes
game-glance.logto~/homebrew/logs/Game Glance/. It records each start-up
and any recovered error. When you report a problem, attach that file.
