To troubleshoot the "Language model unavailable" error in the VS Code Copilot chat window, I recommend the following steps:
Check Internet Connection: Ensure that your internet connection is stable.
Verify Copilot Extension Installation:
Open the Extensions view by clicking the Extensions icon in the Activity Bar on the side of the window or by pressing Ctrl+Shift+X.
Search for "GitHub Copilot" and verify that it is installed and enabled.
Update VS Code and Extensions:
Make sure your Visual Studio Code is up to date. Go to Help > Check for Updates.
Update the GitHub Copilot extension to the latest version.
Sign In to GitHub:
Ensure you are signed in to GitHub. Go to the Accounts view in the Activity Bar and sign in if you are not already.
Check GitHub Copilot Status:
Sometimes the service might be down. You can check the status at GitHub Status.
Review Copilot Settings:
Open the settings by going to File > Preferences > Settings and searching for "Copilot".
Ensure that the settings are correctly configured.
Restart VS Code:
Sometimes a simple restart of VS Code can resolve the issue.
Check for Errors in the Output Panel:
Go to View > Output, and select "GitHub Copilot" from the dropdown. Look for any error messages that might provide more details.
