Copilot "Manage models" does nothing after entering OpenAI API Key

Could not find any log reffering the issue.

• Copilot Chat Extension Version: 0.31.5
• VS Code Version: 1.104.3
• OS Version: Windows 10 22H2 (19045.6332)
• Feature (e.g. agent/edit/ask mode): agent
• Selected model (e.g. GPT 4.1, Claude 3.7 Sonnet): gpt-4o-2024-08-06

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Install vscode 1.102.3 and copilot plugin with chat version 0.29.1;
2. Open chat, click on active model, select "Manage models";
3. Select OpenAi, enter your API key, then inform the gpt-4o-2024-08-06 model;
4. Everything works;

5. Update vscode to latest version (1.104.3 when opening this issue). It will say that Copilot chat needs to be updated (see image below):

6. Copilot chat gets updated to version 0.31.5 and the gpt-4o-2024-08-06 model is gone (image bellow);

7. Repeat steps 2 and 3. Nothing happens after entering OpenAi's API Key.

Can you confirm this issue exists with 1.105 which just got released? I cannot reproduce

Logan Ramos (@lramos15) yes, still exists with 1.105. Made a gif with steps:

1. Start with vscode 1.102 with working BYOK gpt model on copilot chat 0.29.1;
2. Update vscode to 1.105;
3. Copilot chat will ask for update to version 0.32 to be compatible with vscode 1.105;
4. BYOK model is gone (gif below);
5. Try to add it again:

• Manage models;
• Manage OpenAI;
• When asked to enter OpenAI key, leave it blank and press enter to clear previous key;
• Manage models;
• Manage OpenAI;
• Enter OpenAI key (nothing happens - gif below);
• Manage models;
• Select OpenAI (nothing happens - gif below).

Quick note: just opened the state.vscdb on notepad++ and at the very bottom the previously configured model still there, but Copilot Chat does not show it:

So clicking the gear and entering an API key is expected to do nothing after the API key is entered. But clicking in and selecting the open AI entry directly should do something. Can you attach two sets of logs for me

Are you sure your API key is valid? As your gif shows you being dumped into the custom model flow which only happens if we fail to list models via Open AI's model endpoint.

Also do you have any network firewalls? As we must be able to hit https://main.vscode-cdn.net/extensions/copilotChat.json

Yes, valid key. Using it normally on 1.102. No firewalls blocking that url, it's accessible.

Weird thing is at 2025-10-13 12:18:24.653 states the Copilot Chat version is indeed 0.32.0, but 2025-10-13 12:18:16.001 error still mentions 0.29.1

Okay, this is bizarre. I'll have to add more logs and you'll have to use insiders + copilot chat pre-release to figure out what is happening tomorrow when the new logs land. Thanks for all the info!
