GitHub Copilot icon missing from bottom-right corner of VS Code

Type: Bug

1. Launch Visual Studio Code (latest version).
2. Ensure GitHub Copilot extension is installed and enabled.
3. Open any file (e.g., .cpp or .py).
4. Look at the bottom-right corner of the VS Code window.

Expected Result:
The Copilot status icon (indicating activation or connection status) should appear at the bottom-right corner of VS Code.

Actual Result:
The Copilot icon does not appear at all, even though the extension is installed and enabled.

Additional Info:

• Copilot commands (like "Enable Copilot" or "Sign in to GitHub") do not show any visual status.
• Reinstalling or reloading VS Code does not resolve the issue.
• VS Code version: (you can copy from Help → About)
• GitHub Copilot version: (copy from Extensions tab)
• OS: Windows 10 / 11

For me, the menu item is there but it's unchecked. Checking it causes the icon to show.
