VSCode loses connection with remote after "Developer: Restart Extension Host"

• Remote OS Version: AlmaLinux 9.6
• Remote Extension/Connection Type: Any
• Logs: Nothing is logged

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Connect to remote
2. Open the command palette
3. Run "Developer: Restart Extension Host"
4. Observe that "Cannot reconnect. Please reload the window." immediately pops up.

Does this issue occur when you try this locally?: No

microsoft/vscode-remote-release#11091 was closed as an extension issue, but this is not an extension issue. The extension in question merely performed this operation programmatically.

To find out if this is an extension issue, we need to know if it reproduces without any external extension enabled.

• open a WSL window
• Run Developer: Reload With Extensions Disabled
• This will open a WSL window that has no extensions (except the WSL extension) enabled
• Run "Developer: Restart Extension Host" to see if your issue reproduces

I get the same result as the shared video after running Developer: Reload With Extensions Disabled (though the extensions are grayed out instead of having none installed).

Thanks for trying. Strangely I'm not able to reproduce this, I also tried with Fedora.
Can you enable setting "remote.WSL.debug": true and provide the WSL log before you do the reload and after?
Also have a look at the Output > Server, Output > Main and Output > Extension Host (Remote) logs

Sorry about the delay, I normally experience this problem with an SSH connection so I had to take some time to dust off my WSL installation. I've attached a zip archive containing the logs requested.

They require a bit of explanation:

1. The files with suffix 1 are before running Developer: Restart Extension Host
2. The files with suffix 2 are after running the command and clicking "Reload Window", which clears the WSL log as it establishes a new connection
3. The files with suffix 3 are after running the command and clicking "Cancel", which preserves the WSL log (but there's no server or remote extension host)
