Steps to Reproduce:

1. Update VSCode
   2.look at the tabs

The customization like active tab border is gone
The round corner for everything looks weird

First the 2026 theme and now this, i think i am officially old now, and should start saying 'back in my day VSCode looked good'.

Yes, i think this was turned on by default

Yes, my Insiders and Stable are both defaulting not to use Modern UI. But it may be the subject of an A/B experiment, and your default is to use Modern UI.

This feature was enabled in VS Code Insiders after a recent update, and I wasn't a fan of the unprompted theme change. I disabled 'Modern UI' in Settings via workbench.experimental.modernUI.

Some feedback on Modern UI: for some reason, I find the tab labels harder to read and scan at a glance.

Probably the new tabs (the ones in the bottom panel for example) look is the only thing I like in the new UI…

some honest feedback:

• active tab should connect to the bottom of the tab bar for mroe visual clarity independent from color highlighting
• bevel sizes between different panels are too big
• the new drop-shadows in many places are often good, but sometimes there are too many, taking up reading space on top of all the increased margins/bevels. For example. the bottom of the editor doesn't need an inward drop shadow under the horizontal scrollbar
• new explorer view is great, but the newly added extra padding between it and the activity bar wasn't needed
