Highlights

Agent Client Protocol (experimental)

  • The new wassette acp command runs a stdio agent host, allowing an Agent Client Protocol (ACP) editor to drive a WebAssembly agent. Existing MCP commands are unchanged (#770).
  • An ACP chain has one terminal provider and optional layers, specified in CLI order. Layers intercept agent calls downstream and client updates upstream; multiple providers are rejected for now (#770).
  • The new wassette:acp@7.0.0 WIT package defines provider and layer worlds. The host bridges ACP JSON-RPC over stdio through Wasmtime's async component model, keeping protocol output on stdout and logs on stderr (#770).
  • Providers and layers can resolve from a local path, a supported URI, or the existing Wassette component store (#770).

Policies and secrets

  • Wassette policies govern network access, HTTP destinations, storage, and environment access for ACP components (#770).
  • A layered chain shares one WASI context, so policy grants are shared rather than isolated. Chains with policy grants, stored secrets, or --allow-all must explicitly opt in with --allow-shared-grants (#770).
  • Secrets configured with wassette secret set <component-id> KEY=value are available to that component through wasmcloud:secrets lookups (#770).

Known limitations

  • ACP agents cannot yet call Wassette WebAssembly components as tools, so this release does not close #756 (#770).
  • Provider terminal calls bypass layers, so layers cannot intercept them (#770).
  • Multi-provider sessions remain disabled (#770).
  • Concurrent layered callbacks can misroute stage-specific imports; avoid untrusted layers (#770).

Examples and testing

  • Offline echo-provider and uppercase-layer demo components are included, along with just build-acp-examples and just test-acp recipes (#770).

Maintenance

  • OCI support reverts to oci-client 0.17, and the deprecated rmcp ServerInfo is replaced (#822).
  • The winget and Homebrew definitions are updated for v0.7.1 (#809).
