Summary

Revisit typography and typesetting across the product so that both English and Chinese interfaces feel intentional, consistent, and easy to read. The work should establish a coherent typographic system rather than address isolated text defects.

Why this matters

English and Chinese have different requirements for font selection, fallback behavior, punctuation, spacing, line breaking, and information density. A shared but locale-aware approach will improve readability and prevent clipping, awkward wrapping, inconsistent hierarchy, and mixed-script rendering issues.

Scope

  • Audit typography across the primary desktop surfaces in both English and Chinese.
  • Define and apply a consistent type scale, font weights, line heights, and text hierarchy.
  • Review font families and fallback stacks for Latin, Chinese, and mixed-script content.
  • Refine wrapping, truncation, punctuation handling, spacing, and line-breaking behavior for each locale.
  • Verify compact controls, navigation, dialogs, settings, chat content, and other text-dense views.
  • Validate behavior at supported window sizes, display scaling settings, and common content lengths.
  • Preserve the product's existing visual language while improving polish and consistency.

Design questions

  • Which type scale and hierarchy should be standard across product surfaces?
  • Which font and fallback strategy should be used for English, Chinese, and mixed-script content?
  • Where should locale-specific spacing or layout adjustments be permitted?
  • What truncation and wrapping rules should components follow?

Acceptance criteria

  • English and Chinese typography use a documented, consistent hierarchy.
  • Representative screens have been reviewed by design in both locales.
  • Chinese punctuation and line breaks render naturally, and mixed English/Chinese text has reliable fallback behavior.
  • Text does not clip, overlap, or overflow at supported sizes and display scaling settings.
  • Shared components use reusable typography tokens or styles instead of one-off values.
  • Before-and-after screenshots are included for the major affected surfaces.
