Obsidian-Dashboard turns your Obsidian note vault into a command center for Claude Code. This tool connects your personal knowledge base directly to your development environment. You gain a visual display of your active tasks, code snippets, and terminal logs without leaving your notes.

The package contains the dashboard interface and the necessary plugins to bridge the gap between text files and your computer terminal. The setup process works on all modern versions of Windows.
Before you install the dashboard, ensure your computer meets these base requirements:
- Operating System: Windows 10 or Windows 11.
- Software: Obsidian version 1.4 or higher installed.
- Account: A valid API key for Claude Code services.
- Memory: 4GB of RAM or more.
- Storage: 200MB of free disk space for plugin files.
Follow these steps to set up your dashboard:

- Locate the download folder on your computer.
- Extract the contents of the ZIP file to a folder you can access.
- Open your Obsidian application.
- Click on the gear icon to open Settings.
- Select Community Plugins from the sidebar.
- Toggle off Safe Mode if it remains active.
- Click Browse and search for the dashboard plugin folder you extracted.
- Enable the plugin via the list once it appears.
The dashboard needs your API key to talk to the Claude terminal.
- Open the plugin settings in Obsidian.
- Find the field labeled API Key.
- Paste your unique key from your developer account into this box.
- Locate the path field for your terminal workspace.
- Point this to the root folder of the project you want to track.
- Click the Test Connection button.
- Wait for the green status check to confirm the link.
Once you finish the setup, the dashboard icon appears in your left sidebar. Click this icon to open your command center. The layout splits into three distinct zones.
The Top Bar shows your current connection status and your usage stats. If the light glows green, you have a live connection to your code terminal.
The Main Panel lists your active commands. You can type instructions directly into this box. When you press Enter, the dashboard sends these to your terminal and displays the results in real-time.
The Sidebar tracks your history. Every action resides here, sorted by timestamp. Click any past entry to review the terminal output or to copy the result to your clipboard.
You do not need to learn complex code to use this dashboard. Use these plain-text commands to drive your workflow:
list-tasks: Shows everything you currently work on.find-file [name]: Searches your project folder for a specific document.check-status: Verifies that your connection to the central servers remains active.log-view: Opens the full history of your recent terminal interactions.help: Displays a full list of all available commands within the interface.
Your data stays on your local machine. The dashboard reads your Obsidian files and creates a bridge to your terminal. It does not send your personal notes to third-party servers. Your API key remains encrypted within your local Obsidian settings file. You hold total control over when the dashboard activates and when it pauses.
If the dashboard fails to load, check these points to fix the problem:
- Check the internet connection. The dashboard requires a stable connection to reach the Claude Code terminal.
- Ensure the API key is correct. A single character error prevents the connection.
- Restart Obsidian. Sometimes the application needs a fresh start to recognize new plugins.
- Check for updates. Visit the project link to see if a newer version exists.
- Clear the plugin cache if the display looks empty or broken. You can find this option in the advanced settings menu.
You can link multiple projects to the dashboard. To add a second project, go to the plugin settings and select the Multi-Project tab. Click Add Project and choose a new folder path. A drop-down menu in the top bar now lets you switch between different workspaces. This allows you to manage different tasks without mixing your terminal logs.
If you notice the plugin runs slow, limit the amount of history it keeps in the sidebar. Open the settings menu and change the History Limit from 100 entries to 20. This reduces the amount of memory Obsidian needs to keep the dashboard responsive during long work sessions. Avoid keeping too many heavy files open in your primary vault to ensure the interface responds instantly to your keyboard input.
