Void Hormiga 0.2.2

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 19 Oct 05:04

Every database is its own room. A test database can no longer reach a real one; a copy is a new database; a member can be removed, and a database left for good. Update every device: 0.2.2 cannot sync with 0.2.1 or older. Details: okf/concepts/platform/database-separation.md.

Windows and Linux have been run by a person. The macOS archives are untested: they compiled on a runner with no display, so nobody has confirmed a window opens. Published so they can be tried.

Void Hormiga 0.2.0

Choose a tag to compare

@migriv24 migriv24 released this 09 Oct 11:55

Hormiga 0.2.0: your data, called what you call it. This is a new major version. On the surface it looks familiar; underneath, the kinds of thing a database holds stopped being the application's and became yours.

Call your data what you call it

  • Data > Edit kinds. Rename any kind (Contacts can be Customers, Members, Patrons), change its icon and colour, relabel its fields and add fields of your own. Renaming never changes what is stored.
  • Make new kinds with their own fields: vendors, invoices, devices, characters, anything. Say what each can do: be placed on a map, be on the calendar by one of its dates (an expiration date, a due date), be listed in a directory.
  • Website and newsletter directory blocks can list any kind you mark as listed (a store's vendors), and event grids any dated kind of yours.

Canvases: maps of anything

  • Besides Earth, draw floor plans in metres or maps in feet, with rooms, aisles and regions that give tags to everything placed inside them. On the desktop and the phone.

New databases for new kinds of work

New database asks what it is for:

  • Organization: an outreach organization, as before (the Cat Colony is still the shipped demo).
  • Grocery store: Whisker Mart, a cat grocery with its floor, products, vendors (BIG FISH, M.E.O.W. Distribution...), customers, sales and purchase orders: the first shape of a point of sale.
  • Smart home: the House of Cats, a floor plan with rooms, smart devices, residents, supplies whose expiration dates are on the calendar, and chores.
  • D&D campaign: the Whiskerwood, a party of cat adventurers of D&D 5e races, creatures, places, quests and sessions on a map in feet.

Private by default

Things of a kind you make reach a website or newsletter only when tagged clearance:public, and then only their name, date and one line; email and phone also need clearance:contact. Your own kinds never appear on a public map, calendar or feed without that tag.

Changes to know about

  • The calendar labels entries by name, not by internal handle.
  • The map has a canvas picker beside its search; your existing map is the Earth canvas, unchanged.
  • The 0.1.12 grocery demo (Corner Market) is replaced by Whisker Mart. Databases made from Corner Market open intact.

Installing the APK

VoidHormiga-0.2.0.apk installs over 0.1.12. Its certificate SHA-256 is 37d0ee2427d8e1714fc73c8494f90d3feaf7cbaed974a20dae63e205d35521f4.

Checked on the desktop and in a desktop playing a phone; the radios (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi Direct) from 0.1.12 still await a run on two phones. The macOS archives are untested. Only the APK is signed.

Void Hormiga 0.1.12

Choose a tag to compare

@migriv24 migriv24 released this 06 Oct 06:35

Phones keep each other in sync over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi Direct, with no Wi-Fi network in common. The map becomes layers and windows, on the desktop and the phone.

New on the phone: Nearby, no Wi-Fi needed

  • In Migos, switch on Bluetooth or Wi-Fi Direct. Members of the same database who are near you, with Hormiga open and the same switch on, connect and stay in sync. No hotspot, no data plan.
  • Bluetooth works between any phones (and is the way an iPhone can join later) but is slow: a first sync can take a minute or two. Wi-Fi Direct is fast, Android to Android; the other phone may be asked to accept.
  • Only members of the database are ever connected or shown. Each transfer has its own progress bar, and members reached by radio appear under Here now with their signal.
  • The first time you switch a radio on, Android asks for Nearby devices. Nothing is asked before that.
  • You still join a database once over the same network; after that, the radios keep you in sync.

The map is a drawing application

  • Views are now layers: a name, a place in the stack, an eye to show or hide it, how it looks under others, and whether it shares positions with the other layers or keeps its own.
  • On the desktop, the map's top bar is gone. Inspector, Overview, Layers and Actions are windows beside the map, which you can tear off. The drawing tools and + / - zoom are on the map itself.
  • Actions: export a picture of the map, make the current view its home, or add the map to a newsletter or website.
  • On the phone, the Layers screen matches the desktop's (no Actions yet), and other visible layers show faintly underneath.

Also new

  • One search in every search bar: words match names, @tag matches tags, -word leaves things out.
  • Notes have names, and markers are labelled by name instead of their internal handle.
  • A region can give several tags, edited like any tags.
  • Save on any contact, event or other item saves it and then checks that it is in the database, named, on the map, and shared the way you expect.

Changes to know about

  • The desktop map's top bar is gone; its parts moved into the windows beside the map.
  • Views are called layers and keep their settings.
  • Marker labels show names, not handles, on the map, its list and PNG exports.

Installing the APK

VoidHormiga-0.1.12.apk installs over 0.1.11. Its certificate SHA-256 is 37d0ee2427d8e1714fc73c8494f90d3feaf7cbaed974a20dae63e205d35521f4.

Bluetooth sync was verified between two desktop processes over a simulated radio and in a desktop playing a phone; it has not yet run on two phones, and Wi-Fi Direct has not run at all. The macOS archives are untested. Only the APK is signed.

The map is on the phone. Add places, give them colours, icons and shapes, see where you are, pin notes to places, and every map now draws real pins.

New on the phone: the Map

  • One finger moves the map. Pinch to zoom, double-tap to zoom in, tap with two fingers to zoom out, or tap then drag up or down to zoom with one hand. A flick glides.
  • Tap a place for its card: open it, move it, write a note about it, or centre on it. Drag the card up to change its colour, icon and shape.
  • Hold your finger on the map to add something right there: a person, an organization, an event, an incident, a note, or a reference point. Or press + to place it exactly, with a pin in the middle of the screen and the map moved under it.
  • Hold a place to pick it up, then drag it somewhere else. Moving and removing both offer Undo.
  • Where you are: the locate button shows your position and how sure the phone is. It asks for permission only when you press it. Adding a place offers "Where I am instead".
  • Places that overlap are grouped into a numbered circle; tap it to open it up. If your tap lands on two places at once, the map asks which one you meant.
  • Search the map, choose the base map, and draw rectangles and ellipses, all on the phone.

New everywhere

  • Notes can sit on the map, on the phone and the desktop: "New note here", or "Note" on a place's card. A place lists the notes about it. Notes never leave the app in an exported picture.
  • Real pins: markers are redrawn as proper location pins (and a new rounded "balloon" shape) on the desktop map, in PNG exports and on published websites.
  • From a person or place in Data on the phone: Show on the map / Put on the map.

Changes to know about

  • A new phone install puts Map on the bottom bar where Notes was. Notes is still in the gallery (the centre button). A bar you arranged yourself is not changed.
  • Map PNG exports leave notes out.
  • The pin shape looks different on maps and, after your next publish, on your website.

Installing the APK

VoidHormiga-0.1.11.apk installs over 0.1.10. Its certificate SHA-256 is 37d0ee2427d8e1714fc73c8494f90d3feaf7cbaed974a20dae63e205d35521f4. The first time you press the map's locate button, Android asks whether Hormiga may use your location.

Run on a desktop playing a phone, not yet on a phone. The macOS archives are untested. Only the APK is signed.

Void Hormiga 0.1.10

Choose a tag to compare

@migriv24 migriv24 released this 27 Sep 15:14

On a phone, a tap is no longer a scroll. The Antfarm graph pinches, switching databases is safe, and Data on the desktop has a right-click menu.

Changes to know about

  • Scrolling on a phone no longer presses what your finger started on. A finger is now a tap (lift without moving), a press (hold still briefly), a scroll (move), or a pinch (two fingers). While you scroll, nothing highlights or clicks, and a flick glides and slows naturally. Touching a list that is still moving just stops it.
  • Switching databases on a phone happens behind "Opening...". The open database is saved first, but only if it changed, so a switch no longer re-packs every picture each time.
  • Each screen keeps its own place. A card opens at the top of its details, and Back returns to where you were in the list.

New

  • Pinch to zoom the Antfarm graph on a phone; two fingers also move it.
  • Right-click in Data on the desktop: Open, Copy name, Delete. With several selected, Delete removes all of them. Undo brings them back.
  • On a phone, only the newest two messages show at the bottom, wrapped to the screen.

Installing the APK

VoidHormiga-0.1.10.apk installs over 0.1.9. Its certificate SHA-256 is 37d0ee2427d8e1714fc73c8494f90d3feaf7cbaed974a20dae63e205d35521f4.

@migriv24 migriv24 released this 26 Sep 18:05

The phone scrolls, adds photos, and has eight screens. Pictures sync between members, with a loading bar. A database manager on the phone and the desktop.

Changes to know about

  • Scrolling works on a phone. Drag a list and it scrolls, and a flick keeps it gliding. Swipe-to-delete, which never worked in a list, works too.
  • Pictures now sync between members. A contact's picture never crossed before, and a large picture (most phone photos) broke the connection. Both are fixed, and a large transfer shows a bar that fills as it goes. Members still on 0.1.8 do not fetch pictures, so update every device.
  • Switching databases saves the open one first. A database that was never saved gets a dated name instead of being lost.

New on the phone

  • Choose a photo on any picture field, through the phone's own photo picker. It needs no permission: you pick the photos, and only those are shared with the app.
  • Notes, shared with the database or kept private.
  • Migos, the network: who is here, with signal and ping, the transfers, sharing a database from the phone, and joining one.
  • Migas, the databases on the phone: new, open, import, save a copy elsewhere, set the default, remove. A .miga sent to you can also be opened with "Open with Void Hormiga".
  • A bar you arrange: any four screens, set in Settings, around the Hormiga button in the middle, which opens all of them.
  • The Antfarm as a list of nodes, or as the graph you move around with a finger.

New on the desktop

  • File > Databases: every database on this computer, to open, copy or set as the one that opens at start.

Installing the APK

VoidHormiga-0.1.9.apk installs over 0.1.8. It is signed with Void Hormiga's own key; its certificate SHA-256 is 37d0ee2427d8e1714fc73c8494f90d3feaf7cbaed974a20dae63e205d35521f4.

Every flow above was run on a desktop playing a phone, including a picture going from the phone to another member. None has run on a real phone yet. The macOS archives are untested. Only the APK is signed.

Void Hormiga 0.1.8

Choose a tag to compare

@migriv24 migriv24 released this 26 Sep 00:58

The phone works: readable, clear of the system bars, joins databases and adds things. Settings, Preferences and Profile are separate, File has Recent databases, and the Antfarm is shared between members.

Changes to know about

  • On a phone, joining works. 0.1.7 could not write a joined database or keep a profile, because it looked for them in folders a phone does not have ("cannot write test/test.miga.part"). Everything a phone keeps is now inside the app's own folder. 0.1.7 was also unreadably small on a phone: its fonts were stored under a name Android could not find.
  • Credentials are always encrypted, sealed with a key your profile holds. There is nothing to turn on, and "Encrypt credentials" is gone. A vault made earlier under a passphrase still asks for it.
  • New database and Open leave a shared database on this device. Opening it again (File > Recent databases) is how you are back in.
  • Which database opens at start is a setting (Settings > Starting Hormiga). Updating keeps the one you use now. A new install starts with an empty database instead of the demo, and anything replaced at start is kept in backups first.
  • The Antfarm is shared by everyone in a database, except nodes that name a credential file, which stay on their device.

New

  • On a phone: no more hiding under the status bar, the camera cutout or the gesture strip; the Data screen is cards (tap opens, swipe deletes); the add button works.
  • File > Recent databases; File groups Share and Discover under "Networking".
  • Settings (this application, on this device) is separate from Preferences (this database: where its files are, and what everyone in it shares). Profile has Log out, typed to confirm, because there is no way back in yet.
  • The Antfarm has "This device" and "Device paths" nodes that show each device its own answer, an Arrange button that lays the graph out left to right, and test nodes (Number, Add, Multiply, Text, Join, Upper case, and a Polygon router with the number of sides you set). The test nodes do nothing yet: they are for trying the shared graph between devices.

Installing the APK

VoidHormiga-0.1.8.apk installs over 0.1.7. It is signed with Void Hormiga's own key; its certificate SHA-256 is 37d0ee2427d8e1714fc73c8494f90d3feaf7cbaed974a20dae63e205d35521f4.

Windows and Linux have been run by a person. The macOS archives are untested. This APK has been tested on a desktop simulating a phone, not yet on a phone. Only the APK is signed.

Void Hormiga 0.1.7

Choose a tag to compare

@migriv24 migriv24 released this 24 Sep 19:45

The first Hormiga for a phone (an experimental Android build), tag suggestions from Void Maiz, and a shared Builder that no longer gives two members the same names

Changes to know about

  • New runes in a shared Builder are named per device (contact-a3f-1 rather than contact-1). Two members adding a rune at the same moment used to mint the same name, and one of the two vanished on the other screen.
    Who this affects: Everyone building together. Existing names are unchanged.

New

  • An Android build, experimental. VoidHormiga-0.1.7.apk: Data, Calendar, Together and Me under a navigation bar, typed into with the phone's own keyboard. The phone joins a desktop's shared database as a member; it does not host one, publish, or draw maps. Nobody has run this build on a phone yet, so treat it as something to try, not something to rely on. It is not offered by the in-app updater: download it from this page.
  • The same phone screens on a desktop: start Hormiga with --phone (or --touch).
  • Tag suggestions come from Void Maiz now (the recommender Hormiga gave them), and linking tags take the strongest connection rather than the sum of all of them.

Installing the APK

Allow installs from your browser (or file manager) when Android asks. The APK is signed with Void Hormiga's own key; every future update will be signed with the same one, and Android will refuse an "update" signed with any other. Its certificate SHA-256 is 37d0ee2427d8e1714fc73c8494f90d3feaf7cbaed974a20dae63e205d35521f4.

Windows and Linux have been run by a person. The macOS archives and the Android APK are untested. Only the APK is signed.

Void Hormiga 0.1.6

Choose a tag to compare

@migriv24 migriv24 released this 20 Sep 17:18

Members keep syncing for as long as they are both there, instead of only for the first few seconds - and the console is somewhere you can work

Changes to know about

  • SYNCING NO LONGER STOPS AFTER A FEW SECONDS. Two members connected, exchanged what they had, and then went quiet for the rest of the session: they stayed visible to each other, and no edit or new entry ever arrived. A connection that ended was recorded as still open, so it was never rebuilt. Connections now last as long as the two are on the network, and one that ends is rebuilt within seconds.
    Who this affects: Everyone sharing a database. This is the whole reason for 0.1.6, and 0.1.5 should not be used for sharing.
  • Settings > Console is applied with a button, not as you click. Every other setting still takes effect immediately.

New

  • The console says which part of the system spoke - Void Core, Void Maiz, Void Palabra, Allomone or Hormiga - each in its own colour
  • Clear the console. It hides the lines, it does not delete them: Copy all still has the whole session
  • As text: one box you can select and copy from. Right-click any line to copy that line
  • Settings > Console: timestamps, who said it, and hiding view chatter
  • ls lists the graphs in this database, cd goes into one, pwd says where you are
  • profile, profile username <name> and profile color #rrggbb, typed in the console

Windows and Linux have been run by a person. The macOS archives are untested. Nothing is signed.
