What's new

  • Choose English or Finnish; the language is remembered between launches.
  • Paste up to 100 links at once, preview playlists and select up to their first 500 entries.
  • Run 1–5 simultaneous downloads with individual pause, resume, cancellation and queue reordering.
  • Download original audio or convert to MP3, M4A, Opus or WAV.
  • Search history, retry with revised options and export history with reduced private data.
  • Recover the queue after restart, follow real progress and disk space, and use improved keyboard navigation and zoom layouts.
  • Use native Windows, macOS and Linux packages with updated documentation and screenshots.

The internals now use a sandboxed renderer, narrow validated IPC, shell-free tool execution, bounded durable storage and safer cancellation/shutdown. Dependencies include Electron 44.8 and electron-store 12.

Installation and upgrading

Install the package for your operating system and architecture. Quit an older running VideoNinja before installing the update. Existing settings and history are migrated on first launch.

Install yt-dlp, ffmpeg/ffprobe and a supported JavaScript runtime with matching EJS support separately. These tools are not bundled. Choose a download folder in Settings and use Check tools again after installing tools.

Packages are unsigned, and the macOS app is not notarized. This release has no Intel Mac package and no automatic application updater.

Verification

  • 208 automated tests and lint checks pass.
  • Native CI builds, packaged-app checks and native-package smoke checks pass on Windows, macOS and Linux. Windows checks install/uninstall the NSIS package; macOS checks mount the DMG and Linux checks extract the DEB.
  • Nine real local-media checks pass on Windows with yt-dlp 2026.10.10.233141 and ffmpeg 8.0.1, including DASH merging, MP3 conversion, playlist preview and concurrent downloads.
  • Production dependency audit has no findings. One documented moderate build-only advisory remains; see SECURITY.md.

Commit CI and release package checks passed for commit faee06783ed6362e12967ee5e9a022d626d96852.
