Release list
v0.4.1 – Japanese text alignment
Japanese text in file names, labels and menus now sits on the same baseline as Latin letters. In 0.4.0 it was drawn a few pixels too high.
v0.4.0 – Nine languages and CJK file names
Swift Explorer now speaks nine languages, and Chinese, Japanese and Korean file names no longer show up as boxes.
Languages
German, Spanish, French, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Simplified Chinese and Japanese join English and Turkish. The app picks the Windows display language (or LANG on Linux) and you can switch in View > Language.
Native speakers haven't checked the new translations yet. If something reads wrong, there's an issue for each language (German, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese, Japanese). Adding a new language is one file; see Translations.
Changes
- Chinese, Japanese and Korean names use the system's CJK fonts (Microsoft YaHei, Yu Gothic and Malgun Gothic on Windows, fontconfig's choice on Linux). They load in the background, so startup isn't slower.
- The keyboard shortcuts window (F1) shows the version and a link to this page.
- Install with Scoop:
scoop bucket add misutesu https://github.com/misutesu-desu/scoop-bucketthenscoop install swift-explorer.
v0.3.0 – Flatpak and Linux install script
Linux gets an install script and a Flatpak build, and startup is faster on both systems.
Linux install
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/misutesu-desu/swift-explorer/main/install.sh | shIt installs to ~/.local/bin and adds Swift Explorer to the app menu. Add -s -- --uninstall after sh to remove it.
There's also swift-explorer.flatpak. Install it with flatpak install --user swift-explorer.flatpak. It isn't on Flathub.
Changes
- Type
cmd, powershell, pwshorwtin the address bar to open that terminal in the current folder. On Linux, terminalopens your default terminal, and a terminal's name (konsole, kitty…) opens that one. - On GNOME the app uses your interface font (Adwaita Sans on recent versions).
- Wayland docks and task switchers show the app's own icon.
- The window appears with the folder and its icons already drawn, without a white flash on Windows.
- Large folders such as WinSxS sort much faster.
- Free space and subfolders are read in the background, so slow network drives no longer freeze the window.
- Tabs you aren't looking at load when you first switch to them.
- Memory use stays lower in folders with thousands of images.
- Fixed a light edge around some Windows icons.
v0.2.0 – Linux support
Swift Explorer now runs on Linux.
Download swift-explorer-linux-x86_64.tar.gz, extract it and run swift-explorer inside. The bare swift-explorer-linux-x86_64 file is the same program; it needs chmod +x before it runs. Windows users get SwiftExplorer.exe as before.
The Linux version is new and less tested than the Windows one. Differences from Windows:
- Icons come from your desktop's icon theme.
- Shift + right-click opens the app's own menu, since there is no Windows context menu.
- Copied files go to the clipboard as paths. Pasting from other file managers works; pasting into them may not.
- Dragging files out of the window doesn't work yet.
If something breaks, please open an issue with your distro and desktop (GNOME, KDE…).
