v2.0.0 — panel and tray, everywhere
A usage meter for Claude Code that lives in your panel or tray: how much of your
5-hour and weekly limits is gone, and how long until they reset.
What it does
- Both rate limits at once, each with a meter, the percentage used and the countdown
- Colour by how much is gone — configurable bands, green → amber → orange → red by default
- Updates the moment a session writes — a file watch rather than a poll
- A details window — live meters, a per-session drill-down, settings that apply as you change them
- Honest about staleness — it says when the numbers are old, and why
Where it runs
| System | What you get |
|---|---|
| Xfce | a real xfce4-panel plugin (compiled C) |
| KDE, Cinnamon, MATE, Budgie | a StatusNotifier tray icon |
| GNOME | a tray icon (needs the AppIndicator extension) |
| Windows | a notification-area icon |
| macOS | a menu-bar item |
Install
git clone https://github.com/mkalmousli/ClaudeStatusBar.git
cd ClaudeStatusBar
make installWindows and macOS, or Linux without make:
uv sync && uv run claude-statusbar --installFor the native Xfce panel plugin, add make deps && make xfce-plugin.
Requires Python 3.9+ and uv. Nothing about your
usage leaves the machine; the only network request is the optional daily update
check, which can be switched off.
Notes
Rate limits are account-wide, so with several sessions running the highest
reading in the current window wins — snapshots from a window that has already
reset are discarded rather than allowed to pin the meter at an old peak. The
Sessions tab shows which snapshot is being used and how many were ignored.
