MK Crossfader 0.3.1

Audio crossfading and MIDI multi-mapping for macOS, designed around Maschine 3
with Maschine+ in Controller mode and also tested with Ableton Live.

What's New

  • Performance A/B and Scene Morph built-in presets return with neutral
names, confirmation before applying, and a Save Current & Apply option.
Existing MIDI assignments, target names, endpoints and Return Values are kept.
  • The update checker skips withdrawn or incomplete downloads, selects the
highest matching version and clearly distinguishes testing prereleases.
Stable releases remain the default. Checks and installation remain manual.
  • The installed third-party notices now include embedded dependency licence
    texts and attribution.

The VST3 audio processing and saved-state format are unchanged from 0.3.0.
Both components are versioned 0.3.1 in the combined installer.

Download And Install

Download MK-Crossfader-0.3.1.pkg and its matching .pkg.sha256 file below.
The installer is Developer ID signed, Apple-notarised and stapled, and contains
Apple Silicon and Intel builds. The combined package requires macOS 14 or later.

Save your work and close the MIDI app and all plug-in hosts before installing.
Use the same VST3 version for all linked Controller and Target instances.
Rehearse your own project and controller before live use.

Older app versions can download this update directly from this release page if
their update checker does not offer it. GitHub's source archives are not installers.

Windows remains source-only: no Windows binary is included. Maschine+ standalone
mode is not supported. Other macOS DAWs may work but have not been verified.

MK Crossfader 0.3.0 Preview

Audio crossfading and MIDI multi-mapping for macOS, created around Maschine 3
with Maschine+ in Controller mode and also used with Ableton Live.

This prerelease is for testing. A browser-download installation on a clean Mac
and a full physical-controller rehearsal of this release remain outstanding.
Use a disposable project and verify your setup before live performance.

Download

  • MK-Crossfader-0.3.0.pkg: combined macOS installer, Apple Silicon and Intel,
    macOS 14 or later.
  • MK-Crossfader-0.3.0.pkg.sha256: checksum for the installer.

The installer is Developer ID signed, Apple-notarised and stapled. Gatekeeper,
final package-content and privacy checks passed. GitHub's source ZIP and TAR
archives are not installers. There is no Windows binary download in this release.

Changes

  • More visible MIDI Learn and Send Learn controls.
  • Additive A/B Crossfade Pair, Parameter Range and Level Target actions; saved
    presets remain separate configuration snapshots.
  • More robust MIDI parsing and cancellation of pending learn messages.
  • Improved VST3 Controller ownership, handover and shared-state consistency.
  • Offline setup guides and cleaner installer packaging.
  • Experimental Windows VST3 source and build/test CI, without binary uploads.
  • Clearer official-release and project-identity guidance; AGPL-3.0 is unchanged.

Before Upgrading

Close all plug-in hosts and the MIDI app. Version 0.3.0 changes the internal
VST3 link protocol: upgrade every linked instance together. Saved plug-in state
remains compatible. Neither tool runs on Maschine+ in standalone mode.

Validation And Support

The macOS products passed the native app tests, VST3 integration tests and
strict plug-in validation on Apple Silicon and Intel. Automated tests do not
establish Windows DAW compatibility or replace physical setup testing.

Known Update-Checker Limitation

The MIDI app's Check for Updates command looks for the latest stable GitHub
release, not testing prereleases. It also does not check whether an older
release's installer has been withdrawn. Download this preview directly from
this release page; do not use the withdrawn 0.2.8 or 0.2.9 release pages as
installer sources. Update discovery will be corrected in a later build.

Warning

Installer withdrawn. The installer and its checksum have been removed
from this release. No installable binary is available here.
GitHub's Source code (zip) and Source code (tar.gz) files are source
archives, not installers.

signing, Apple notarisation and release testing are complete.

The notes below are retained as a historical record. Their installation
instructions and checksum refer to the withdrawn package, not a current download.

MK Crossfader 0.2.9

MK Crossfader was created primarily for live performance with Maschine 3
desktop software on macOS and Maschine+ hardware in Controller mode. It uses
one physical fader or knob to coordinate several sounds or parameters during a
transition.

Both tools have also been manually verified in Ableton Live: the native app can
control several mapped Live parameters from one hardware movement, while the
VST3 can crossfade several Live audio tracks without moving their mixer faders.

Version 0.2.9 fixes VST3 host interaction and expands the Ableton Live setup
documentation.

What Changed

  • Fixed the VST3 editor so Role and other settings remain clickable inside the
    host plug-in window.
  • Added regression coverage for VST3 editor interaction.
  • Documented and manually verified both Ableton Live workflows:
    • use the native app to map one physical fader or knob to several Live
parameters, each with its own range, direction, response shape, and Return
      Value;
    • use the VST3 Controller and Target instances to crossfade multiple Live
audio tracks without moving their mixer faders.
  • Clarified Return Value behaviour and general MIDI Learn compatibility.
  • Refined the public documentation, screenshots, and repository structure.

The native app and VST3 are independent. Either can be used on its own, and
both work with any MIDI controller that sends an assignable MIDI CC.

Included

  • MK MIDI Crossfader: native macOS MIDI multi-mapping for performance
transitions, effect control, and coordinated parameter movement.
  • MK Crossfader VST3: linked audio crossfading with one Controller and
    multiple Target instances.
  • Built-in Performance A/B and Scene Morph starting points.
  • Combined installer containing the app, VST3, licence, third-party notices,
    and setup documentation.

Requirements

  • macOS 14 or later for the combined installer
  • A compatible VST3 host for the plug-in workflow
  • A destination that supports virtual MIDI input and MIDI Learn for the native
    app workflow
  • Maschine+ can be used in Controller mode with Maschine 3 on the Mac; these
tools cannot run inside Maschine+ standalone

Each VST3 Target is an audio effect and must receive audio from a sample,
instrument, loop, or live input. The Controller passes Master audio unchanged.

Installation

  1. Download both files below.
  2. Close Ableton Live, Maschine 3, and other plug-in hosts.
  3. Verify the checksum using the command in the installation guide.
  4. Run the package, then restart or rescan the host.

The package is Developer ID signed, Apple-notarised, stapled, and accepted by
Gatekeeper. It contains no preinstall or postinstall scripts.

MK Crossfader 0.2.8

First public release of MK Crossfader, an open-source macOS toolkit for
performance transitions, MIDI multi-mapping, and linked audio crossfading.

Designed around Maschine 3. The native MIDI app is also tested with Ableton
Live and can map one physical fader or knob to several Live parameters at once.

Included

  • MK MIDI Crossfader: map one assignable MIDI CC to multiple
Maschine MIDI Learn targets, each with its own direction, range, response,
    and restore value.
  • MK Crossfader VST3: use one Controller and multiple Target instances for
linked audio crossfading without moving Maschine's mixer faders.
  • Built-in Performance A/B and Scene Morph starting points.
  • Combined installer with the app, VST3, licence, third-party notices, and
    setup guide.

The app and VST3 are independent. Either can be used on its own, and both work
with any MIDI controller that sends an assignable MIDI CC.

The native app can also control other macOS software that accepts its virtual
CoreMIDI input and exposes parameters to MIDI Learn. Use full-range Parameter
targets for these workflows; compatibility depends on the destination's MIDI
Learn implementation.

In Ableton Live, separate targets can control filters, sends, effect parameters,
and gain from the same hardware movement. Every target can use its own
direction, range, response shape, and Return Value. Max for Live is not
required. See the Ableton Live setup guide
for a complete mapping example.

Requirements

  • macOS 14 or later for the combined installer
  • Maschine 3 desktop software for the documented workflow
  • Maschine+ is supported in Controller mode with Maschine 3 on the Mac; these
tools do not run inside Maschine+ standalone

The VST3 is an audio effect. Put each Target after the sample player, loop,
instrument, or live input that produces the sound. It cannot create sound on an
empty or silent channel.

Installation

  1. Download the .pkg and .pkg.sha256 files below.
  2. Close Maschine and other plug-in hosts.
  3. Verify the checksum with the command in the installation guide.
  4. Run the package, then restart or rescan the host.

The package is Developer ID signed, Apple-notarised, stapled, and accepted by
Gatekeeper. It contains no preinstall or postinstall scripts.
