Jarvis 0.1.9

Choose a tag to compare

@mmAbdelhay mmAbdelhay released this 04 Oct 16:23
5818d1f

Jarvis now updates itself.

  • Automatic update check: at launch and once a day, Jarvis asks GitHub for the latest release. One request, with no information about your computer and no token.
  • Updates card in Settings → General: shows your version, when it last checked, the new version's release notes, and a dot on Settings when an update is waiting.
  • One-click install: Install update downloads the build for your computer (macOS Apple silicon dmg, Linux AppImage), checks its SHA-256 against the release's SHA256SUMS, then asks before restarting, telling you how many terminals and agents the restart will end. If anything goes wrong, your current Jarvis stays in place.
  • Clear limits: Jarvis tells you up front, without downloading anything, when it can't replace itself: run from the dmg or Downloads (move it to Applications), a Linux build that isn't the AppImage, or a build from source.
  • Releases now ship a SHA256SUMS file.

Install once by hand: 0.1.8 and earlier don't have the updater, so install this version from the dmg or AppImage below. Updates after it come through Settings.

Downloads: Jarvis-0.1.9-arm64.dmg (macOS, Apple silicon, unsigned as before), Jarvis-0.1.9.AppImage (Linux x64), jarvis-mobile-0.1.9.apk (Android; same app as 0.1.8, the phone app has no changes in this release), SHA256SUMS.

A fuller phone Home, a readable phone terminal, and fixes for image paste and the Sessions list.

  • Phone Home: CPU, memory and disk at a glance, New session and New terminal, every project with its Terminal, Docker, API and Sidecars tools, and a headline that counts agents running outside Jarvis.
  • Phone terminal: text no longer shrinks to 6px. It stays at 11px or larger and you swipe sideways for long lines. The controls are compact, leaving about three quarters of the screen for output.
  • Fit: a button on the phone terminal that resizes the shared terminal to the phone. The desktop gets its own size back when you turn Fit off, leave, put the phone away or lose the connection.
  • No false "Connection may be stale" flash on a healthy connection.
  • Desktop Plan button on each terminal tab, to open and close the plan panel.
  • Cmd+V pastes screenshots into Claude Code running in a Jarvis terminal tab.
  • Sessions: Codex's background service no longer shows as two running agents. Agents you start by typing claude in a Jarvis terminal now show as running ("in Jarvis terminal"), with their own transcript; click one to jump to its tab.

Downloads: Jarvis-0.1.8-arm64.dmg (macOS, Apple silicon), Jarvis-0.1.8.AppImage (Linux x64), jarvis-mobile-0.1.8.apk (Android). The macOS build is unsigned, as before.

Jarvis 0.1.7 — the redesigned phone and browser app

Choose a tag to compare

@mmAbdelhay mmAbdelhay released this 03 Oct 10:56
54bc129

The redesigned phone and browser app: every screen now follows the approved redesign, on phones, tablets and in the browser.

  • Phone: line icons and the redesign's type throughout. Home shows the laptop's name, the waiting question as a row of answers, capacity with a 24-hour trend, and the sessions that are working with their +/− counts. Sessions now includes finished and imported sessions (with Resume), grouped by day. The session screen has Live / Changes / Plan / Files tabs, a five-key bar (plus Ctrl+R) and a message bar. Changes opens on a session straight away; Workspace opens on a project with its tabs and files; the terminal gains a navigation mode with the arrow pad.
  • Browser and tablet: a sidebar that turns into an icon rail for the terminal; Home with tiles and an Active sessions table; Sessions beside the open session with an inline message box; a two-pane Changes with staged/unstaged groups and a split diff; History as a chat with project and agent filters; Settings split into This browser and The laptop; and a Workspace with browser-style tabs, a file tree and the plan beside the terminal.
  • Safety is unchanged: the terminal page is untouched, a phone's settings save still changes only the worktree mode, and closing tabs or trashing files still asks first.

macOS build is arm64 and unsigned: right-click → Open, or xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Jarvis.app. Linux is an x64 AppImage: chmod +x it, then run it. The Android APK installs outside the store; allow the install when asked.

Full details in the changelog.

v0.1.7-beta.1 — phone and browser redesign (test build)

Choose a tag to compare

@mmAbdelhay mmAbdelhay released this 03 Oct 05:38

Test build of PR #15: every phone and browser screen now follows the redesign mockups. Not merged yet.

The APK installs over the current phone app; allow the install when Android asks. The browser screens ship inside the desktop app, so they show once a desktop build from this branch serves them.

Jarvis 0.1.6 — a redesigned phone app that can act on the laptop

Choose a tag to compare

@mmAbdelhay mmAbdelhay released this 03 Oct 02:36
fea89bb

Phone redesign, and the phone can now act on the laptop: a new phone and browser app, worktrees per session, git from the Changes view, and answering a waiting session from anywhere.

  • Phone and browser redesign: a bottom bar with Home, Sessions, a raised Talk button, Workspace and Changes. Home shows agents working, questions waiting for you, capacity trends and sessions per day. Session screens switch between Live, Changes, Plan and Transcript. On a tablet or in the browser, a sidebar holds every section and History shows the list beside the open conversation.
  • Act on the laptop from the phone: close and rename the laptop's tabs, resume a past session (it opens in a new terminal and the phone lands on it), rename files or move them to the Trash inside a project, and change the worktree mode. Every one of these is audited on the laptop.
  • Phone terminal: the plan stays in view above the keys, jump to the previous or next command, find in output, an arrow drag pad, a Files sheet, and an Alt key (Alt+⌫ deletes a word).
  • Answer a waiting session without opening its terminal, from the Dashboard, the phone or by voice.
  • Worktree per session (sessions.worktrees: off | parallel | always), so two agents on one project don't step on each other; merge back or remove when done.
  • Changes view: branch picker, pull, push and Open pull request; the file sidebar refreshes itself and can create, rename and trash files.
  • Usage history: 30 days of capacity on the Dashboard, with sparklines and sessions per day.
  • API client: copy a request as cURL, fetch or Python, and find inside a response.
  • Also: Copilot CLI sessions open with their conversation in History, plan progress (3/7) in the plan panel header, and Check for updates in Settings → General.
  • Safety: a phone's settings save can change only the sessions section, never project folders, program paths or the bridge. Phone tab titles refuse control and text-direction characters. File actions stay inside the project root.
  • Fix: a long home folder path no longer makes Jarvis think a background daemon is running.

macOS build is arm64 and unsigned: right-click → Open, or xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Jarvis.app. Linux is an x64 AppImage: chmod +x it, then run it. The Android APK installs outside the store; allow the install when asked.

Jarvis 0.1.5 — a plan panel in every terminal, and tablet layouts

Choose a tag to compare

@mmAbdelhay mmAbdelhay released this 28 Sep 14:21
358ef5f

Plan panel: read, edit and comment on Claude Code plans without leaving the terminal, plus a desktop-class layout for tablets and the browser client.

  • Plan panel in every terminal tab: the plan Claude Code writes in plan mode opens beside the terminal on its own, without taking focus. Any docs/superpowers/specs or plans file in the project can be picked too. Click a section to edit it in place; ⌘S saves just that section, and if the file changed on disk a notice keeps your text. Pin comments to a selection or a whole section, then Send to Claude pastes them into the tab as one message. Toggle it with ⌘P → Toggle plan panel or the tab's right-click menu.
  • Plan sheet on the phone: the terminal screen's Plan button shows the same plan with comment pins, per-section editing and Send.
  • Tablet and desktop layout for the browser client and iPad / Android tablets: desktop-style top bar, three-panel Dashboard, Sessions beside the selected session, inline terminals and tools, and a Settings section list. Phones are unchanged.
  • Keep Jarvis running in the background (Settings → General, off by default): terminals, agent runs, the remote bridge and the browser client move into jarvisd and survive quitting the app.
  • Desktop fixes: native tab menu, Settings save no longer corrupts the default terminal, redesigned session edit form.
  • Safety: plan files are only read or written inside plan folders, remote images in plans never load, plan links open only if they are http/https/mailto, and comments pasted into the terminal are stripped of control characters.

macOS build is arm64 and unsigned: right-click → Open, or xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Jarvis.app. Android APK (phone app with the new Plan sheet) installs outside the store; allow the install when asked.

Jarvis 0.1.4 — the phone app, and a dashboard that shows the whole machine

Choose a tag to compare

@mmAbdelhay mmAbdelhay released this 20 Sep 20:08
baf3e45

The phone companion app arrives, along with a redesigned desktop.

  • Phone app (Android APK below; iOS builds from source): pair over your local network or Tailscale, watch and drive sessions, open terminals on the laptop, review changes, and use the Editor / Database / Cluster tabs from the phone through an authenticated sidecar proxy. Off by default; nothing is reachable until you turn it on.
  • Remote bridge: TLS with pinned or real certificates (one-click issue from Tailscale in Settings), per-device pairing, opt-in push notifications, an audit log, idle auto-off.
  • Dashboard redesign: the JARVIS core with orbiting agents and glowing threads to your projects; sessions discovered even when an agent runs outside Jarvis.
  • Provider capacity meters, free: Claude (status-line snapshot), Codex (its own logs), Copilot (the CLI's signed-in account). Never a billed query.
  • Prayer notifications, configurable in Settings.

macOS build is arm64 and unsigned — right-click → Open, or xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Jarvis.app. Android APK installs outside the store; allow the install when asked.

Jarvis 0.1.3 — Linux, Windows, and a Skip button that works (macOS build only)

Choose a tag to compare

@mmAbdelhay mmAbdelhay released this 13 Sep 13:30
a275a8a

Fifty-three commits since 0.1.2.

Read the filenames. The .dmg is 0.1.3, built from this tag. The
AppImage and the .zip are still the 0.1.2 builds, attached here so
every platform has something to download from one page — they keep their
0.1.2 names because that is what they are, and they do not contain the
fixes described below.

They are not renamed on purpose. Each build has to be produced on the
machine that ships it: packaging Linux from a Mac wraps a darwin Electron
without complaining, and node-pty's native binding must be compiled by its
own platform. Relabelling a 0.1.2 binary as 0.1.3 would put a version on it
that its own app.getVersion() disagrees with — which is how the 0.1.2
assets came to be three different source states under one number.

Linux

An AppImage, and the parts of the app that had assumed macOS underneath it:

  • Voice. Recording through PulseAudio, speech through Piper. say is no
    longer pretended to exist.
  • The Terminal tab speaks bash. Shell integration is dispatched by login
shell — bash under the Jarvis rcfile, zsh under ZDOTDIR — so blocks, the
file sidebar, the chips and history-ranked completion work under either.
  • The menu bar is hidden without losing the edit roles that make ⌘C and ⌘V
    work.
  • CPU temperature on the Dashboard, where the machine will give one.
  • The hotkey is explained honestly under Wayland, which does not let an
    application claim a global chord.

Ubuntu 22.04 and later need libfuse2 to mount an AppImage
(sudo apt install libfuse2t64); without it,
--appimage-extract-and-run works instead. Building from source on Linux
needs a C++ toolchain and Python, because node-pty ships no Linux prebuild.

Windows

A .zip beside the .dmg and the AppImage. Unpack it anywhere and run
Jarvis.exe — the whole folder is the app, so keep it together.

  • The Terminal tab runs PowerShell, with the same blocks and shell
    integration the other two get.
  • Chords are Ctrl+Shift, the same spelling Linux uses. If another app
already holds Alt+Space — PowerToys Run does, by default — Jarvis says so at
startup and uses Ctrl+Shift+Space instead, and every hint in the app then
    names that.
  • ptys, voice and packaging all work; the Editor tab has no Windows build.

x64 only. The executable is not Authenticode-signed, so Windows may warn once.

A first-run screen that installs what Jarvis needs

Jarvis names the external tools it can use, what each one unlocks, and whether
you have it — then installs the ones you tick. Nothing installs until you press
the button, and nothing needing root is ever run: those are shown as a command
to copy. Reachable later from Settings.

And it closes now. It never did. .setup-overlay set display on its base
rule, which is author-origin and therefore out-cascades the UA stylesheet's
[hidden] { display: none } — so Skip set the attribute and nothing moved.
Reported as "it opens every launch"; it did not open every launch, it never
went away. Two more latent instances of the same cascade trap went with it, and
a test now checks the shape rather than the three selectors already known.

Agents are found, and sidecars start

  • Sidecars resolve their PATH when they spawn rather than when they were
built, and one that will not start now logs why instead of being dropped
    silently.
  • The login shell is asked for the PATH interactively, and Jarvis finds the
shell itself rather than assuming one.
  • Piper is given its text on stdin. It has no input-file flag.

Under the repository

None of this changes the app, but it changes what contributing to it is like:

  • CI — pnpm lint, pnpm typecheck, pnpm build and pnpm test on
Linux, macOS and Windows for every pull request.
  • Biome for formatting and linting, with every finding cleared.
  • A documentation site at https://mmabdelhay.github.io/jarvis/, built from
the markdown already in the repository, with search across every page.
  • Screenshots of the Session table, the Editor tab and the Terminal.
  • CONTRIBUTING.md, SECURITY.md, CHANGELOG.md and NOTICE.

Node 24 is now the documented minimum, not 22. The session store is built
on node:sqlite, which Node 22 does not carry — the suite does not even load
there. The guides had said 22 since before the session store existed.

Downloads

macOS — Jarvis-0.1.3-arm64.dmg, Apple Silicon only. Not signed by an
identified developer, so the first launch is refused: System Settings →
Privacy & Security → Open Anyway, or
xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Jarvis.app.

Linux — Jarvis-0.1.2-x86_64.AppImage, x64. chmod +x and run it.
Ubuntu 22.04+ needs libfuse2 (sudo apt install libfuse2t64), or run it
with --appimage-extract-and-run.

Windows — Jarvis-0.1.2-win-x64.zip, x64. Unpack anywhere and run
Jarvis.exe; the whole folder is the app. Not Authenticode-signed, so
Windows may warn once.

Both of those are the 0.1.2 builds, as their names say. They predate the
fixes above — most visibly, the prerequisites screen will still not close
when you press Skip. 0.1.3 builds for both will replace them here.

Jarvis writes ~/.config/jarvis/jarvis.yaml on first run and opens with it, so
there is nothing to set up before the first launch. It will report the agent it
cannot find until you install one — see
installation for
the external tools each Workspace tab wants, all optional except the agent CLI
itself.
