Beetroot Is Now Open Source

Beetroot is now open source under Apache 2.0. Explore the code, report issues, or contribute. Created by Max Nardit.

What's New

  • More reliable pasting in normal, follow-cursor and always-on-top modes. Reopening from the tray no longer reuses an old paste destination.
  • Better file and folder renaming in Explorer, with clearer feedback when a clip is copied for manual paste.
  • More dependable history: fixes for restoring deleted images, keeping notes and moving the data folder.
  • AI keys move from older settings into Windows Credential Manager. Interrupted migrations can be retried without losing the remaining keys.
  • Fixes for AI results, Unicode search highlighting and application icons, plus updated TLS certificate validation.

Installation

Windows installer (recommended): download Beetroot_1.6.7_x64-setup.exe below. An MSI installer is also available as Beetroot_1.6.7_x64_en-US.msi.

Existing users can update through Beetroot. If you installed a 1.6.7 test build, run the final installer manually: automatic updates do not replace a build with the same version number.

Package-manager and Microsoft Store updates are handled separately; this release does not mean those channels already carry 1.6.7.

Known Limitations

  • When the original paste target is no longer available, or when choosing a clip in always-on-top mode, Beetroot may copy without pasting. Focus the destination and paste manually.
  • On one Windows 11 test installation, the first Show in Explorer action opened the correct folder without selecting the image. The same behavior also occurred without Beetroot running.
